Default 1997-2000 JZS161 swap into 1st gen

Exactly as the title describes...

I am pretty dead set on picking up a JZS161 2jzgte from a 1997-2000 Toyota Aristo. I am going to have either tweakdpeformance or chasebays make a harness.

I was going to be replacing these parts:
- water pump
- valve cover gaskets
- cam seals
- VVTI o-ring rebuild for cam gear from Power Dynamix
- Gates T215RB timing belt
- front/rear crank seals
- Pilot bearing
- Spark plugs
- radiator hoses
- any sensors that look messed up
-pull off pan and clean oil pump pickup and re-seal pan.

Is it worth doing intake manifold and exhaust manifold gaskets on a 40-60k mile jdm motor?

My questions are, does anyone know what I can do about motor mounts?

Also, is there anything special needed to hook up the A/C or power steering?

I plan on keeping the stock twin turbos for now and figuring out how to hook it up to my exhaust that is stock now (for now). I am pretty excited!

I haven't done to much research on the JZS161 GTE but why not just use a JZS147 GTE to make things a little easier? Either way good luck!!!

For a few reasons...

- One is cost... There about 800 dollars cheaper which is pretty much the cost to have my harness done.
- Next is the 2jzgte VVTI shares the same rods, crank, and pistons with the non vvti variety so its just as strong.
- There is a greater variety of VVTI motors in comparison to JZS147 motor sets.
- Lower miles on VVTI potentially
- More torque earlier and faster spool
- Better/updated coils (3 vs 6)
- Easier to acquire igniter
- Japan never had OBD2 like the USDM cars, its a different setup without EGR.
-dealing with CT20 turbos which are less likely to boost creep, larger, but same ceramic turbines and 440cc injectors.

Overall I think its the better option. Especially if I have the wiring done by a professional!

Thanks for the info!! Are you following a specific how to guide? I would be interested to read through it. Good luck with your build!!

Nope I will document everything required to do it in my build thread. But I do plan on having the harness done by Dr Tweak.

There's a few things I'm unsure of because I don't have the motor yet and can't do it. Just preliminary research!

I don't know if my 2jze first gen GS300 motor mounts will just bolt up to the VVTI, I also would hope I could leave my PS pump and AC connected and mount them on the vvti somehow, because that would be easier but I don't know if that is possible yet

This is incorrect, I am 99% sure. The Supra guys shun the vvti motors cause they have comparatively weaker rods, reason why they're cheaper. But we all know those Supra guys are fairly nuts and full of it. . Regardless, they're still very strong, just not as strong as the non vvti.

Well, i can assure you 100% that the 2jzgte VVTI is the same rods/crank/piston/block (quoted from supraforums from multiple sources including Curt @ toyota) as the non VVTI 2jzgte.

The mass confusion, and spread of misinformation like this is because the NON turbo VVTI (2jzge VVTI) was given smaller rods in comparison to the 2jzge NON vvti out of the GS300/SC300/Supra.

So regardless, they are JUST as strong as non VVTI

http://www.2jzgarage.com/2012/02/2jz...i-information/

Quote from Jeff Lange
2JZ-GTE had the same bottom end specs from 93-02 (non VVT-i and with VVT-i)
2JZ-GE without VVT-i had the same bottom end minus oil squirters and higher compression.
2JZ-GE with VVT-i is the same, but with lighter (read: weaker) rods.
