Default HELP! Detailers messed up my car!

I took my 95 GS300 Touring in for detailing and when I drove it out, it would barely go 10 mph. I was able to get it the 3 blocks to my mechanic who looked at it for a couple of hours yesterday and will continue to look at it today, but no codes are coming up. Something was knocked loose or something by the idiots?????? Any ideas?????? It's not the coils, that much we know...

Did they detail the engine bay?

Make sure you've formally notified the detailer about the problem so they don't claim it happened well after the work was done.

Don't worry. I went right back to the detailers and let them know. New thinking is they got some water under the distributer cap. I'm hoping it's that easy. Will be able to check it this afternoon.

Most likely its water or the silicone spray they use to shine up your engine. You could also have water in your spark plug galley which is common. I just drove mine for a bit and the heat steamed it out. Otherwise use a shop vac to get it.

Well, it won't drive. The first mechanic thinks it may be in a lock-safe mode so I will now take it to the import specialist. It has proven to be nothing simple. I am NOT happy.

The same thing happen to me when I had my old gs repainted and they detailed it before I got it back. Look at the obvious places water in the cap and the spark plug galley but you problem is the maf sensor. the water in the middle of the duct got suck in thru you air filter and ruin the sensor. Replace it because it has you car in limp mode. This is the only thing that would cause it not to run right. They go bad even when we dont get a check engine light. Start there first and change the rotor cap and pin if you can. Mine would even stay started and ran like crap until I figured it out... Also look at the plug on the TPS sensor and make sure its not crack ( the end of the wires going into the connector. Very common problem. Toyota wires suck and break down over time.....Good Luck

I guess you can't check things yourself if it's at the shop, but as above I'd be looking for water or dampness in places it shouldn't be.

Well, there was water in the spark plugs and after 2 mechanics it is running. Now there are new noises AND the car wash owner is refusing to pay, even though I went right back and told them. He says he was not told. The car wash manager was told, but it did not get to the top until yesterday so they say. They guys who did the detailing were troubleshooting for the past week and I have been back 4 times. He is trying to say that other things were wrong with my spark plugs even though the person that fixed it said there was water in there and she thought they should and would pay because they were "stand up guys." Ha! He is throwing things out like they got wet some other way like snow....SNOW! Can you believe it? She even tried to explain to him how the engine in different on this car, but he wasn't listening. You would think he might want to learn from the mistake, but nooooo. "We've done this thousands of times and never had a problem." I have notified the BBB. Anybody know if they are helpful?

By the way, how would oil have gotten into the spark plug reservoir? There was oil in 2 of them along with the water. Of course this jerk said that proved that it was my fault...what? That had nothing to do with it. Ugh....

It's an extremely common issue when you let a detailer spray down your engine because the inline 6 firing order places the plugs straight down the center in a "valley" for water to collect in. Does not matter how many they have done. Still their fault.

Just do a full tune up and send em the bill.

Oil is probably from leaking valve cover gaskets.

these are both true. While its simple enough, the detailer should have been more careful before hosing down an engine he didnt know anything about.

How much did you pay them? And how much is your repair bill?
