Default Anyone using a MSD Blaster Coil?

My OEM ignition coil stopped working today so I got another one from Pull-a-Part today but it looks worse than the old one. Anyway I found a brand new MSD Blaster 2 coil in my closet and I wanted to know if anyone else is running one on their 1st GEN and if so where did you mount it and how did you wire it in? I am guessing that the 2 wires that connect to the factory will be the 2 wires I need to attach to the Blaster 2 coil just change the ends to ring terminals.

Should work like you said. Just make sure you get +/- correct.

Here are some pics of MSD Blaster coil installed-Don't mind the dirty engine bay

He is a pic of the mount- I used a few large washers, bolts and nuts to mount it to the air filter box.

Pic of the coil installed before I finished routing the power and ground wires.

After running the wires and modifying the coil wire to fit.

And finally with the intake shroud on

If anyone wants I can do a write that will detail the entire process.

The MSD Blaster 2 coil was a very worth while upgrade. The car idles better and the engine is much for willing to rev quickly!! I also installed a new distributor at the same time because mine was pouring oil out of the top. I bumped the timing up to about 17 degrees and the car really likes the extra timing!! (Free power FTW!!)

I'd be interested in a write-up, even though what you got so far is pretty good. I'm interested in the wiring you had to do, as well as what you had to mod on the coil wire to get it to fit. I'm going NA-T soon, and am going to be on the stock ECU for a bit, and it can't hurt to add something like this in.

What part number did you go with?

I think I may do this too! I had the MSD on my JDM H22 to help after I ran Brian Crower cams and a VAFC II and it was a vast improvement.

I'd rather see a cop setup for guys going na-t. I wonder how hard it'd be to wire up the igniter of 2jzgte.

I have looked into doing a COP setup and it would involved either Stand Alone engine management or rewiring a GTE ecu. You also need to source individual coil packs usually from an IS300 and a custom mounting plate to secure the coils in place. You could possibly get away with AEM pencil coils and AEM F/IC. I chose to do the MSD blaster coil for ease of install and cost. Maybe if I do a full build it may be option but for now I am really enjoying the benefits of the Blaster coil. I would also like to try an MSD 6AL box for the multi spark discharge option if I can find a good deal or a used one.

Yeah I'm doing cop on my 3sgte build for my race mr2 but its not cheap. I was hoping it'd be cheaper since the 2j came with them in some variations.

Could you let me know what part number you went with? And what did you mod on the coil wire to get it to fit? Is it just opening it up to fit the MSD coil?

I'm thinking I'm going to do this with the 6al box as well. I can get both for ~the $250 range so why not???

MSD Blaster Coil PN# 8202

I had to mod the coil wire by cutting of the end and crimping on a larger terminal because the stock terminal end does not fit down into the top of the Blaster Coil for a good connection.

I am going to use the MSD Street Fire ignition box instead of the 6AL because I don't need the extra features of the 6AL. The Street Fire has the multi spark option below the 3000 rpm like the 6AL which is what I really want. You can get the Street Fire for about $100.
