Default Overdrive Kickdown Switch Problem

I am having some intermittent problems with my Overdrive Kickdown switch. Occasionally, it will not engage. The button pushed fine, but either the OD will not turn off (i.e. will not go to higher RPMS) OR the indicator will flash for a quick second, the transmission will start to respond (higher RPM) but then the indicator will go off and it will restore to OD mode (all happens very quickly---just a flash of the indicator light. Other times, it performs just fine.

Because of the failure mode, my assumption is that this is electrical and likely a failing switch. I pulled up the diagram for the transmission and found only what appear to the 2 independent parts in play. P/N 82224A is a wire that connects to the OD kickdown button and is called “WIRE, OVERDRIVE”. It’s unclear as to whether the button itself functions as an active switch, or whether it is considered part of the cable assembly. There is also apparently a switch inside the gearshift that is p/n “84722-30160-BO” which is called “TRANMISSION CONTROL SWITCH” but it is unclear to me what, if any, affect this switch has on the performance of the OD system.

It’s not throwing any failure codes during this issue and the transmission performance is otherwise fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions for additional diagnoses? Thank you very much.

Jeff
