Default ECT POWER MODE Questions!

Hi guys,

If i turn off the ECT POWER mode, what is the correct way to use the shift gears? I am really uncertain. I would appreciate step by step instructions as I am so used to using Power mode and never the manual mode.
Does anyone know until which speed do I shift to the next gear? Thanks alot and sorry if this question sounds stupid.

the first gen gs never game with gateshifter to my knowledge. all the ECT button does is electronically/automaically hold the gear longer than usual, also shifter more aggressively. also if you floor it it will also downshift easier.

The other gears on the first gen gs are just used for pulling heavy loads, up hill, and down hill. there is really no need to manually shift. we have a great transmission

Jmai is absolutely correct.
Your normal mode is for everyday driving,
and your power one if you feel like one of
the F1 drivers. There's no need to manually
shift between the gears.
Regards.

Default If I turn off Power mode...

Sorry for the confusion guys, I was asking the wrong questions. I meant if i turn off POWER mode and put it on NORMAL. What is the difference? Also would i be saving gas doing this? There is lots of traffic on the freeways in So Cal so I am thinking maybe Normal could save some gas. thanks

Yes,

Normal mode does save gas. Read your manual.

power and normal mode will use up the same amount of gas, all depending on how hard you push on the pedel. in power mode, if you push it hard it will just shift at higher rpm, but if you just drive normal it will shift normal. but as soon as you step on it hard again it will just downshift and hold higher rpm again. so pretty much the hgiher your RPM the more gas you will waste. so power mode will waste more gas. but thats relaly up to your foot. it really doesn't matter what mode you keep it in. but if you are a heavy foot driver keep it in normal it will make it a little harder to waste gas. but power mode is much more fun.

when you drive always keep it in D.

Negative Ghost Rider.
ECT stands for "Electronically Controlled Transmission" it only affects the transmission. If you want stiffer/tighter suspension, look into some springs or coilovers.

haha.. of course you can. I'm usually cruising on the hwy in Normal and somebody cracks a rev going by.. Switch to Power and the kickdown is really quick.

I got dusted by a Hyundai yesterday...I was pissed! I floored the gas pedal and tried to hit the ECT Power, but it didnt work out...could I be having a problem with my transmission or something or is the GS just a little slower because it's a bigger car...it took too long (for me) to pick up speed and show ****'s what it's all about! I need to be able to "take out" the next joker that does that!
