So I have an oil leak. I am trying to figure where I am leaking. I have recently did a full service on my car. Dizzy cap and gasket, wires, plugs, valve cover, tran flush... The whole 9 yards. What other places can I possibly be leaking. I know I have a oil pan leak. But I am leaking oil somewhere above the oil pans. Btw I am leaking at both 1 and 2 oil pan. I know I can not do one of the oil pan because I can't lift the engine. What would be the best guess in the price of fixing it at a local mechanic.

Yep, fix one thing, more problems occur. Don't fix anything, have no car.

Well, it's hard to say without seeing but it could be your valve cover gaskets or your distributor o-ring. You can add dye to the oil and use a black light to help find it.

There is one leak very close to the belt tensioner

That very well could be your distributor o-ring or valve covers. Could even be power steering related.

how can you tell it's close to the tensioner? Did you take off the timing covers and see oil there?

I have bad cam seals and the oil seeps out and onto the areas above the water bypass pipes and drive belt tensioner.

Yeah it really seeps out.

thanks for the info. I believe its the cam seal. i have the leak coming from the rear and front. It doesnt sound like an simple diy. what is the procedure of fixing this cam seat problem? How should i go about this. I dont believe it is the distributor o-ring and valve cover gasket because i just replaced them 3k ago.

I think you should get one of those UV dye kits. if you start with the UV leak detector test, you'll be able to more accurately trace the source(s) of your leak.

Fixing the cam seals isn't that difficult (depending on which seal is bad). To replace the cam seal you have to (i won't go into detail unless you want me to):

1) remove the timing belt
2) remove the cam gears and rear timing cover
3) pull off the bad seal(s) with a pick
4) Grease the new seals and put them back on the engine
-if you have a hard time putting the seals on, you may have to do the following
a) remove the throttle body and "intake connector"
b) remove the valve covers
c) remove the no. 1 cam bearings.
d) then put the cam seals back on.
e) put the bearings back on, etc. etc.
