I literally just replaced my water pump, thermostat, and radiator. It could be pressure or air in the radiator/hose...
As far as the fan goes, if you can hold it, it's probably not a good thing lol.

Appears everything has already been stated here. I went through the process a year ago. Ended up replacing the head gasket. Hope it doesn't come to that for you as it was a 4 day job for me.
