Is it possible to have E-shift in a 1st Gen GS300 ??
Hopefully within the next year, I will be ordering an Aristo front clip. Since I have no intention of turning this car into a manual shifted car, I will have to live with the automatic. Fine, no argument there. I wouldn't put one in anyway, not in a 2 ton 4 door "luxury - sport" car. But I would still like to get a feeling of some control over what gear I am in and when. Hence, the story the follows:
Browsing through the 2nd gen Performance forum, I saw some posts that while different, gave me an idea. E-shift on a 1st gen GS300. Please follow along with my ideas and correct or shoot them down if I am wrong.
A 2nd gen GS400 steering wheel (98-00) with airbag will fit onto a 1st gen GS300 steering column. This wheel has E-shift.
Import 93-97 Aristo front clip, driveshaft, rear diff., ECU, wiring harness, etc.
Import the tranny from a JZS161 that came out of an E-shifted car. From what I have been reading, the trannies themselves (1st & 2nd gen) are identical, just different TC's and bell housings.
With the correct bell housing, bolt up tranny to 2JZ-GTE engine.
I know that there are some electronics involved in here somewhere, anyone have any insight as to that? I have a feeling that VVT-i is going to make this impossible, since the ECU controls the tranny. A first gen ECU doesn't have VVT-i or E-shift, and while a 2nd gen ECU does, my car won't have VVT-i.

1st gen = 4speed and 2nd gen = 5 speed. If you attempt this you lose the plug and play ability with our chassis.
There are transmission control boxes out there that I 'believe' could do what you are asking. I just haven't researched it enough. The Aristo has a decent shift schedule as is with the right sized turbo(s). I'd try it as is and worry about shift schedules after it runs and you de bug it. If something is wrong with it when you start it you will have to wonder if it was something you did.

Here you go. I'd be concerned about it not retarding spark between shifts and grenading the trans.

the 161 tranny if from a 2jz motor will bolt right on to any other 1j or 2j motor. Downsides to your plan. The 161 2j trans wont hold bpu power for very long.

OK. But what about 161's 5 forward gears vs. the 147 ECU that is only used to seeing 4? Unless I can find a 1st gen 96-97 5sp Aristo ECU (if it even exists) Will that be a problem that only a standalone ECU or the 2 piggyback options listed above can work out? Once I get the car up and running, I can start experimenting if I am not satisfied.

An easy way to bypass all this non-sense is to do a standalone or do a vvti gte swap that has the eshift and 5spd already. Again my main concern would be the longevity of a 5spd usdm na auto tranny behind a bpu gte motor
