Lexus sales going down compared to 2016 with GS models leading the drop!

My sister works for Toyota/Lexus...she said they priced the Residual for 4GS way too high. Many are coming back off-lease and they can't get rid of it off the Used lot.
It's a good time to pickup a 2-3 years old 4GS now for next to nothing.
Got my 2015 GS 350 F Sport RWD with 15.5K miles for $34K. They wouldn't even budge on a single dollar, but I think that's a pretty decent deal for a near $60K car just a couple years ago.

Yeah, I think we all saw this coming. Morons.

Even better news is that Lexus is likely discontinuing the GS. (according to Lexus Enthusiast tweet today)

Perhaps I am misunderstanding, but I am confused by your post. You seem to be saying that the dealers are having a hard time selling the lease returns on the used car lot because they are priced too high, but then stating that you can get one "for next to nothing". Or am I not reading your post correctly?

I saw that on Lexus Enthusiast but I'm pretty skeptical about the article. While I do believe the future of the GS is in question, LE is citing a translated article stating that the GS is no longer needed because the LS is now a V6 and they don't need two V6 sedans. That makes no sense to me at all, as they have other V6 sedans and the GS and LS don't compete in the same segment. I'm waiting for something more credible.

I can see the GS being discontinued.
It's slow and the new front end is hideous to many.
The GS 200t was also a bad idea.

Yeah sorry that was confusing. I meant the Lexus dealerships are pricing them too high after lease return. I didn't bought my car thru Lexus..it was a private dealership. I'm seeing many 2014-2015 from mid to lower $30K's with low mileage, at least here in Southern California. They're not CPO clean but mine was checked by my personal mechanic...he said it was very clean no signs of any major issues.

The only way I think it would make sense to cancel the GS is if they were going to move the ES upmarket. With the LS starting for sure over $80k, the ES loaded tops at $50k thats a huge gap in their lineup. Unless we're totally off on the pricing and its going to start at like $65k...which I doubt.

It seems that Lexus is correcting the residual issue for the 2017 GS. I currently have a 2015 IS 350 F Sport in Atomic silver that has been a amazing car these 1st 2 years. By chance, I test drove on Monday the '17 GS 350 F Sport with Levinson, Limited Slip and 4 Wheel Steering package and boy was I impressed. There are giving 2000 in lease cash on the GS until the end of the month. Currently figures for TX show a 3yr/45K mile lease with money factor of .00100 and residual of .53. This residual seems lower than from previous years. Unfortunately, I'm only midway through my lease (4yr/48Kmiles) and I'm not familiar with the early termination of lease process. If I could find to end the lease with minimal financial implications, I would upgrade to that GS in the quickness. More to come....

If they cancel the GS, they either have to make the IS more luxurious or the ES to be more sporty. I used to view the ES as a glorified Camry. I know things have changed but I highly doubt I would ever buy an ES.

Mid-size sedan sales are down across the board. GS is selling less, so is everything else, both standard and luxury class. People want SUV's.

For instance, Camry in the US sold 6000 fewer units in January, and 5000 fewer units in February from the year before. That's about a 20% drop.

If the trend continues, a lot of sedan brands are going to be endangered.

I'd imagine it's mostly due to these low oil prices which have lowered gas prices. Once oil inevitably rises, people will want sedans again, rather than gas guzzling SUVs. It's cyclical.

Lower sales, to some degree, may be due to the "new design" of the front end of the car, specifically the huge ugly grill on most new models. While the front end of these cars once looked somewhat classy, now it just looks ridiculous.

About GS being discontinued- heard that from a lexus dealer when we went to test drive the NX.

Salesman mentioned Good discounts on GS.

Can't believe one dealer on the east coast still has 24 GS 350 (2016 MY) in stock

I took a look at some future spec sheets for the next model GS (2020 MY) and the details were very, very light without much info compared to other model spec sheets. A little concerning for the GS.
