Sorry this happened to you! That's no light scratch.

This incident definitely shows the value of having a surveillance camera. The lucky part was you were able to speak to the mother as this occurred - otherwise tracking the family down might have posed a challenge and would have likely involved waiting on law enforcement.

Anyway, good suggestion by Steve to let insurance deal with it, but I guess we'll see what the mother has to say when you present her with the Lexus quotation.

All the best,

Well, the quote to fix it is $1200. I'll have to blend both fenders too.

Let's see how she swallows this expensive pill.

That's sucks man! Ouch that's an expensive repair too. Hope that mother pays for the damages. I never park mine that close to the sidewalk

Defintely go with the report to insurance route. I'm pretty sure the mother will fight you on paying that amount or try to convince you to go to a "friend's" shop who will do it cheaper (with less quality).

I'm curious to know if the quote you received is from a Lexus Certified Collision Center, a regular Lexus body shop, a [known] high quality body/paint shop, or a body/paint shop that their workmanship and reputation is unknown?

What are you going to get for $1,200 - a new hood, a used hood or spot putty/body filler?

Will the car be taped, bagged and masked for protection during the entire repair/paint process?

It was from a Lexus certified collision center. I got a quick quote as a rough estimate so I'm not entirely sure what it includes as part of the repair. I do know that I'm not looking forward to repainting the entire front of my car though.

Yeah it sucks big time I knew it costs more then 1k to paint the hood by the dealer I got a rough estimate on the phone the guy told me we strip the old paint completely and start from there. If you don't wanna do that try using the touch paint sand/buff it up after the paint cures and see how it comes up.

Yeah, I wouldn't be either. I've seen plenty of shoddy workmanship from shops that had good reputations. Even when the repairs and painting are nicely done, I've seen overspray on the opposite end of the car because the entire car (that was not getting paint) was not protected. I've also seen an unbelievable amount of sanding dust and grit inside cars in every tiny nook and crevice from the body shop. It's never a fun event...

PS - I'm with Steve on letting your insurance company deal with the neighbor whose child damaged your car. You will not gain anything by taking on the job yourself of getting reimbursed for the damage your neighbor's son caused to your car.
