Default HELP: HPS Intake Install...car dies

So I installed the intake and it died as I started up at first... I thought hey no worries?

I drove around for 20min and get a check engine light.. I'm like great but I realized I forgot to put the breather tube on. I removed the negative terminal to clear the codes...started the car up again but dies out first time...start it up again, it is fine. Am I missing something? I saw something about changing the MAF sensor around to direct airflow but no idea what that even means!

U don't need to change the maf sensor, get the code and see what's wrong.

Don't u have to give some throttle for the first start up after changing the intake? I thought I remember having to put my foot down on the gas cause the car hesitated to start (like dying), and it was idling very low for a while until the ECU relearns. This was on my old 2011 Camry though. Same thing after cleaning the throttle body. Maybe ur throttle body is dirty?

I installed my HPS intake in December last year and didn't notice my car shutting off. I installed it, test drove it around the block with no issues other than noticing better throttle response. From then on, nothing out of the ordinary has occurred.

Very strange, I was gonna ask if you maybe didn't reconnect the MAF all the way. Does it only give increase throttle response? If I have a Apexi Accel already would it really not make a difference? I've heard it really doesn't change the sound of it or anything.

I do feel better response... since connecting the breather hose and disconnecting battery... haven't got the check engine light but at start up, feels like its dying out then its fine 2-3 seconds later

Since I don't have the Apexi controller, my guess would be that the HPS intake will add to the throttle response/sensitivity on top what the controller is doing since they are two separate mechanisms (electrical vs. mechanical).

I noticed a change in throttle response when I installed the HPS intake. No issues with starting after the install. Since going to the Invidia catback exhaust I feel an even stronger throttle response. I've had traction control kick in many times since installing both.

The OP got his intake from.

Currently out of stock at HPS for the black one.

Restocking the black one in March, I can however get you a polished one!

How much is the polished one shipped? I wish this intake had a sound increase. I know some other ones too but they lack the sound generator pipe which would probably make it quieter overall.

I think this one uses the stock sound generator, unlike the K&N one which deletes everything and makes it worthless.
