GS Values are Tanking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#16
I bought a CPO 2014 F-Sport AWD, 19k miles, in Dec. of 2015 for $39,900 + tax, fees. MSRP was $59,800. The L ast I looked the trade value was $27,900. I could sit around and fret that I've lost $12,000 in 14 months......IF my intentions were to trade it tomorrow but they are not. This car is my escape, my uber comfortable and reliable toy. It replaces the spot in the garage that was always occupied by various sports cars over the years, the last being an S2000 that I owned for 3 years and sold for a profit. But at 65 I'm getting too old to crawl in an out of almost any sports car. So with the GS I'll just continue to enjoy this amazing but often ignored sports sedan. The rest of the world can have their crossovers (glorified AWD minivans IMO).
Man, enjoy your GS until the end of your lease. You got an amazing lease deal! BTW, my wife drives a '16 Civic. The best car in its class but if you go that route you will miss the GS for sure.

Lexus Test Driver
Right on! I just purchased a 2015 F sport RWD with 14.5k miles for around $38k. I personally am glad the first few years of depreciation hit hard because I was able to buy a $60k car for 60% of that price. I plan on keeping it for the long haul and enjoying it. I kept my IS350 almost 10 years and put 170k miles on the car. Isn't that why you buy Lexus? To have a luxury car that is reliable? I understand people want to have a new car every few years, but then you have all the car options to choose from. Lexus is built for long term ownership.

The depreciation of a new car doesn't bother me as much as paying over MSRP for a new car-and watching it depreciate...

I didn't know it was that bad... until I tried to sell my wife's car... She has a 2013 gs450h, bought it brand new, with everything on it...
If we were to sell it... it'll cost US money LOL... what a world...

I was thinking about this more, the issue of tanking new luxury car values has nothing do to with the GS. This is happening to all expensive cars. It's a systemic problem. The automakers are such a large part of the GLOBAL economy that they have to keep cranking out brand new cars, doesn't matter what the actual demand and supply is. It's essential to the current system, for people to keep buying new cars, as such there are market pressures pushing down the used car values.

I went to a Lexus dealership here in South Florida yesterday, Was going to trade in my 14 GS350 with 21,800 miles, the most they would offer is $27,000. I felt like that was low and ended up not buying the RC350 that I wanted.

That's actually higher than I expected on a '14. Considering you can buy a low mileage CPO '14 now for $31-33k.

Yeah, they offered me that because my family has bought 16 cars from them. The original trade in value would have been $25,700. They even offered to sell me the RC350 for $2500 below wholesale and I still refused. Now that I have pondered it, it was actually a good deal. But things happen for a reason and usually when I walk away, I don't go back, so I will wait for the next best thing.

...Depends on the equipment
Basic Lexus (any Lexus or vehicles out there) depreciation is worse than having the Luxury version with all the options included. You bought a car you thought was a good deal because the price is low (new or used) guess what when you sell/trade the car, the value will be very low.
One way to stop steep depreciation is not to buy basic models, period. You can't expect same asking price for a fake leather to a real one. When I bought my 2013 GS350 LUX/AWD two years ago, I thought it was a steal - guess what, I still feel the same way today!! If I can't drive my car for several days due to work related travels,
I feel there is something missing in my life and I get sad. One of the few reasons I am very exited coming home is being able to Lexus GS350 LUX/AWD again after a long trip.

This is true. I've been amazed at some of the people that get qualified for loans at my store. Bankruptcy? Repo? No problem.
