Dealer said they recommend every 10K miles.

I was doing oil change every 5K with Synthetic (Mobil 1) when I had my Acura TL.

How often you guys change the oil??

10K mile intervals between synthetic oil changes is fine. Depending on your driving demands, the oil would still look pretty good after 10K miles but change it anyways. Just follow the maintenance manual. If changing the oil every 5K miles makes you feel better, then go for it.

We change ours every 7-7500 miles. We keep our cars a long time and prefer to shorten the oil change interval to help maximize longevity.

I have owned two BMW M3s and spent a lot of time on the M3 message boards. Many of the M3 owners would send their used engine oil off to be analyzed. The trend from many analysis reports is that the Castrol synthetic oil used in the M3 was good to about 7-8 thousand miles. Most of these cars were run pretty hard and the engine redlines at around 8000 rpm. So if oil is good to 7-8K miles in M3s, I have no doubt it will last 10K miles in a GS.

I have the oil changed every 10k miles. I've done this on my IS, my GS, my RX, and my Highlander.

I don't believe their oil tested good for only 7-8 thousand miles. With rare exception the full synthetic engine oil will test good for at least twice the Lexus recommended 20,000 miles.

Dealer and Lexus Manual recommends full synthetic every 10k mi. That's what I'm doing for now. Some new vehicles recommend as high as 15k mi on full synthetic.

FWIW I did the same with my old 2000 Camry. Changed the oil once a year with regular Castrol GTX. Car still runs today like a champ. People tend to go overboard and are religious when it comes to oil.

I have seen quite a few BMW's that followed their "recommended" 15k mile oil change interval and it wasn't pretty (lots of sludge). I think the reason a lot of these auto companies are recommending long drain is to protect their profit margin, a lot of times when you buy a new luxury car the auto manufactures pays for the maintenance for the first 30-40k miles.

Just remember, all the manufacture cares about is getting you out of warranty and by that time when 15k mile oil changes manifest itself into something big who do you think will be on the hook? Maybe its just me but the risk/reward for going 10k+miles on oil just doesn't make sense.

The 7-8K miles "tested good" refers to the oil retaining it's lubrication, detergent etc. properties that are close to new oil. Once past the 7-8K mark, the oil began to drastically lose key properties that help protect, clean and lubricate the engine. I am not an oil expert, so I can't break it down for you on a scientific level, but I am quite certain that the analyzed oil from m3 forum members basically revealed you didn't want to use it past 7-8K miles in an M3 engine. Like I said, the Lexus 6 cylinder engine is far lower in performance than the M3 engine, so the oil should last/protect longer in the Lexus.

Well, somebody (with recognized authority) better tell those dumb-*** engineers at BMW that the 15k mile engine oil/filter change interval is off by as much as 50%. Something tells me those BMW engineers know a thing or two about oil and engine lubrication. Dontcha think...maybe?

Remember that the Castrol TWS oil used on the M3 is not a recognized LL01/LL03 (Long Life) oil. I had my e90 for 8 years and changed my oil with Mobil 1 0w20 LL01 oil changed every 15K and never had a problem. With that said, I still follow Lexus 10K synthetic oil changes, I'm sure Toyota didn't spend millions on R&D without taking oil type and oil change into consideration.
