Real World - Backseat GS vs IS vs 3 series vs 5 series
Ok, in the real world how much bigger is the backseat in the GS vs IS? I've taken some measurements between my 335i and the GS and the GS doesn't have a backseat as big as you'd expect. It seems adjusting to a similar driving position it might be bigger than my 3 series but I need to play with the seat adjustments more because in one instance I showed it only .5 inches bigger from my driving position. I remember running into a similar issue with the 5 series, and I can't really remember the A6 backseat much.

I've had an IS and now a GS. The GS is much bigger. Not Camry big, but in my IS I could not put a passenger in the front seat with a rear facing infant seat in the rear. In the GS that's no problem.

I need to do some more testing on the seats. Was your IS the latest generation?

I went from a 2008 IS to a 2015 GS, and it's considerably bigger. In the IS, as mentioned above, it was hard to fit a rear facing infant seat behind the drivers seat. I could barely fit a rear facing on one side and a forward facing car seat on the other side, with a very small amount of space left in the middle. With the GS, if needed, I can fit both car seats next to each other and my wife can also fit back there to keep the newborn company. We are a short family, me being 5'8" and my wife being 5'4" and we both have ample leg room.

That is something I noticed, while I didn't measure a lot more rear seat room I noticed I was less cramped up front, I'm 6'6 so I think I inadvertently had the seat back further and simply didn't realize it.

Do you feel like the GS is bigger front and back then her 335i? Mine is also an F30 car so the same.

and for the GS and IS, i visited the lexus dealer today to take care of some stuff regarding my IS order, so i had a chance to sit in the IS with my mom and dad and my mom sat in the front with the seat up most of the way, but my dad sat in the back (who is 5'9) and he had a decent amount of legroom i was impressed. for children though and car seats the IS would not be a good choice at all, its more for 4 passengers who are adults for shorter rides

So interestingly enough, after sitting in both, the GS may technically be bigger and wider, but the seats are definitely bulkier. The Germans have very flushed and deeply recessed seats which actually provide more room in the rear. So from a leg room stand point, the GS and F30 may actually be comparable which would make the F30 roomier than the IS in the rear.

Personally, I do not think the GS 350 has much rear seat leg room. It is very cramped if the front seat is moved rearward much. I do not recommend setting the driver's seat to fully retract when turning the engine Off, as you will likely mash the passenger's legs setting behind you. Believe it or not, a little Toyota Corolla has a whole lot more rear seat leg room compared to the Lexus GS 350...
