Default Does new Lexus TTV6 mean the GS400 will return?

Lexus just debuted the LS500 with it's 3.5L TTV6 416hp and 442lbft. Apart from Lexus hybrids, until now the badge has always depicted displacement, no more. So with being a first for Lexus and a common trend in the industry the last few years, (the competition mind you already uses 540i and E400/E43 AMG nomenclature on their 3.0L sixes). What are the chances we see a GS400 return?

Let's hear your thoughts!

I think it would bring a smile to all the 2GS owners to see a modern GS400 - that 4.0 Liter V8 and the 4.3L V8 in GS 430 of '01 to 07 was a great engine! I know its just a name, but in my opinion, that new engine needs to be as great as that old one to even consider calling it the 5GS a GS400...

If I had to guess, I think they may actually bring back the GS 300 for the 5GS:
GS 300 (higher output than the current 4 cylinder turbo)
GS 450 hybrid
GS 500 with that new twin turbo engine.

We probably won't see this new TTV6 in the GS until the next generation in 2-3 years. Unfortunately, those numbers after the model name will probably relate to nothing about the engine displacement or horsepower output anymore. But, I am excited to see the performance potential in the next GS with this new engine, new transmission, and lighter platform. I also like the progression of Lexus design inside and out.

Btw...anyone else notice how close the new 2018 Camry's V6 engine output is to the 4GS350? Even though figures haven't been released yet, I have a strong feeling that it will be similar to the RX350 and Highlander of 295 hp and 267 lb/ft. That styling of the XSE model is crazy...too close to Lexus styling if you ask me, but very poser with those quad tailpipes.

I'd say the nomenclature follows displacement theme actually went out the door last year with the 3.5 liter IS300.

Yes, because it's the same engine. 2GR-FKS as I recall.

dam that exterior look aggressive! I like the exterior, but interior is cheap not even close with lexus.
Wonder what gen 5gs will be like. Looking foward to the change! Turbo v6 😍 More power and MPG! Lexus has 3 more year to get rid of the turbo lag. Go lexus!!!

btw, FWD doesnt need that much hp power, wheel hop all day and cant get close to RWD. That is also a reason i go with gs instead of es

Well played! Indeed I forgot that one!

GS400 F-Sport could be pretty mean!

Rumour did say that the 5th Gen GS which is coming out in 2019 will have a twin-Turbo V6. It said that it'll also share the same engine with the new LS. So I'd bet a thousand bucks it'll be the same engine hahaha

That car at a reasonable premium would have a very good chance of bringing me back from the three German cars since I drove a GS (our last GS was my wife's).

He's likely basing that on Lexus's debut move the last few years. RX '10, '11, '12 all the same, RX refresh '13, '14, '15 all the same RX new '16. GS '13, '14, '15 all the same, GS refresh '16, '17. ES ('13 debut, '16 refresh) and IS '14 debut, '17 refresh) also follow similar approaches.

Man, I would love to see a GS400 badge again! Give me flashbacks of high school, that car was my dream car, never had the chance to own it, ended up with an 08 GS350, 13 GS350, and now 15 GS350, this would be my shot lol! Or buy a 1998 GS400 for fun

Love those engine pics. Been waiting for another TTV6 from Toyota/Lexus.

If the 5GS hybrid includes electric turbos, I'll upgrade for sure! lol.

The LS F with the V8 used in the IS F and GS F will be out in 4th quarter 2019 for the 2020 model year. Supposed to look pretty impressive.

Curious if that happens what sort of power that V8 will have in regards to performance over the TT V6 stock for stock. Once people start modding and turn up boost on the LC500 just a few psi they may walk all over the NA V8. The F V8 should put out more power imo than it currently does tweak it to get to 500 at flywheel at least.

If they do put a V8 in the LSF, it'll probably have some forced induction. The horsepower figures of the NA V8 is close to the TT V6, and the torque figures aren't favoring the NA V8. Wouldn't be too surprised though since turbocharging is what AMG, M, and RS are doing.
