How to Install a Radar Detector or Dashcam in Your Car the Easy and clean Way
This is a guide on how to cleanly and discretely (semi-permanently) mount a regular radar detector or a dashcam in your car.
For this example we used Escort Passport Max with original Escort suction cup mount and 3rd party RJ11 power tap on a 2016 Lexus GS350 F-Sport.

I got tired of radar detector being in the way, falling off when its hot, and blocking installation of windshield sun shade. So this is my solution that was about $10.
2016 Lexus GS 350 F-Sport rear view mirror wires to use:
YELLOW is IGNITION wire on body harness of mirror cable.
WHITE/BLACK is GROUND wire on body harness of mirror cable.
1. With finger pull down and out on little piece of the sensor cover
2. Hold the entire sensor cover and SLIDE it toward front of car
3. Tap the plug
4. Reassemble

Really nice & clean set up... looking at picture, I don't think you tapped to rear view mirror power, it's something else (I might be wrong)
FYI guys... not sure about 2016 model but on my 2014 GS if I tapped to rear view mirror radar always stayed on due to garage open buttons on mirror always getting power, had to tap to my rain sensor

You might have taped into a wrong (constant 12v) power cable.
On another note:
I would appreciate if you guys would throw some likes on the YouTube video. I've been doing write up how-to threads here for years and would like to now include videos as well, but without likes or subs, I don't see a point in doing in, considering it takes about an hour per couple of minute of video produced.

I used volt meter to find ACC 12v power source. So when car is off = radar is off. When car is on = radar is on.

Typically you can find a grommet of sorts that you could feed it through in to the trunk.

Want to do the same with a DashCamera. The problem is I had to fit a transformer (12V to 5V) in there and I think is plenty space for it.
Is that going to work?

I used that 'patch' wire shown in the pics for my dash cam and it connected to a 12v to 5v transformer no problem. There is plenty of room in the cluster. I actually used a piece of double stick tape to tape the transformer to something in there so it does not rattle around when driving.
