I've been trying to program my Homelink in my 2016 GS350 for a couple hours with no luck. I have a rolling code opener and have tried every option I can think of including following the directions. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are many comments out there on how to do this and I am trying them all with no luck. The interesting thing is that I found a piece of black tape on the back side of the rear view mirror. The tape had some metallic threads going through it? Anyone ever seen this?

While in the car, press the HomeLink button and remote button simultaneously until you see the light on the mirror blink differently, then go to your garage and press the Learning/smart button on the motor, then go back to the car and press and release the same HomeLink button multiple times (3-5 times) until the garage learns the code (you'll see the garage close).

The black tape behind your mirror might be RFID chip for your dealer. Some dealers are able to scan those and get all your info pulled up when you drive into the service bay.

I tried off and on for a few weeks to get my homelink programmed. Had a problem with one of the 2 garage doors.

Did not realize that one of the garage doors had a learning switch hidden underneath the plexiglass covering the lightbulbs on the drive unit.

The Lexus owner's manual didn't help in this case-going online and finding the directions to the garage door opener did.

I just went through this with my 2015 GS. First you have to clear the existing codes in the home link buttons on your rear view mirror. Press and hold the first and third (far left and far right) buttons for about 20 seconds until the light starts to blink fast.

Then at at the same time, hold the remote just an inch or two from the mirror and buttons. Do not have the battery side of the remote facing the mirror. Then press both the home link and garage remote, remember to do this at the same time. Just press and hold. When the light blinks fast it's set.

Next press the learning button on your garage door opener. The motor mounted on the ceiling, not the remote. A light might or might not blink. You might have to press it a couple times. Now the car has to be in the garage and you only have 30 seconds to press the same home link button on the rear view mirror. As mentioned press this button for a good long second a couple times.

As the last person before me said all is true. One thing I would mention is if you're using a jack shaft garage door opener as i am, or perhaps a newer high end model chamberlain garage door opener, the learn button is hidden being a panel, which is also the garage opener switch button on the wall, that's wired to your garage door opener. There's a button on the side of the motor itself but it doesn't program anything.

The mistake many people make is not first programming the garage remote control to the vehicle - they [incorrectly] think that programming just the opener to the vehicle is all that is needed. Programming the garage remote control to your vehicle must be done first, then program the opener to the vehicle.

Yea I made this mistake as well, you gotta go to the motor and learn it as well.
