2013 GS350 ECO mode
I was noticing more black soot on the rear of the car lately. My wife drive around in ECO mode all the time, could it be unburned fuel causing this? The car is white so it is more noticeable, does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks

What octane fuel are you using?

I drive in Eco mode quite extensively and am not experiencing this.

All vehicles produce exhaust soot/dust/debris. During cooler temperatures and higher humidity weather it is more likely that this exhaust soot will be mixed with some water vapor coming from the exhaust and will splatter some on the chrome exhaust outlets and surrounding paint. This is perfectly normal...

Mine came with some soot on the back (~20k miles), and since it wasn't cleaned early enough, it's pretty tough to get off. I gave up and just leave it, but do give more attention to that area when I wash the car.
Most white cars I see have some around the back, if their design is such it could be visible. As long as it's not excessive, I wouldn't worry. If see lots of black smoke when you rev the engine, I would be more concerned.
For me, I'd be much more concerned if my wife were driving around in my GS all the time. She has her own car.

Yes this happens to me too! I do a lot of freeway driving for my commute to work, and figured it was just exhaust fumes mixed with debris from the road that got kicked up and covered the rear end.
I never questioned the fuel though. I do fill up with 91 octane, but maybe I should try a different brand of gas to see if it makes a difference.
It does get to be a bit of annoyance when the car is freshly washed, and after one drive all the dirt is back

Have you tried washing that area with Dawn dish washing soap? You could also try using a clay bar.

You don't do it every time. You do it to remove all old wax/foreign oils/dirt/grime from the car before polishing and/or waxing.
It's controversial, apparently.

I did both, actually, prior to applying my Zaino products. I was able to get a good amount off, but decided I had hit the point of diminishing returns and moved on. It is less noticeable than when I first bought it, but there's still some staining.
