Make sure that "show notifications" is checked on your phone next to the cars bluetooth device (go to settings/bluetooth/car multimedia. Click on the "i" next to the device). If that doesn't work by itself, unpair and then re-pair the phone. Worked for me.

I have iOS 10.2 on my iPhone 6, and am trying to get my messages to show on the car and be read. I have the settings set as mentioned above on the iPhone, and the settings on the car have everything turned on to show notifications. I even removed the car from the phone's Bluetooth devices, and the phone from the car devices, rebooted the phone and restarted the car, and still no luck. I have no problems using the hands free of the phone, nor any problems playing music from the iPhone to the car's audio system. I had someone send me a text message while the car and phone had a Bluetooth connection, and the car ignored it. From the phone call panel in the car, the Messages button is NOT shaded, but when I click it, all i see is the SMS tab, but nothing in that list.
