I'm not debating dealers do a crappy job washing the car at all (I put a no complimentary wash sign on my car too) and often do marginal or crappy details as well... I simply suggested not to write them off as a potential paid detail service without talking to them, some are decent. Many local boutique detailers can also be bad news, I'd wager more/most are marginal rather than good.... Got to do research, get recommendations, talk to them to get a sense if they will do what you want and work with you regardless of who you select to do the work.

SW you've had bad dealer service experiences over and over with your local dealers and rarely have a good thing to say about them under any circumstance. I am not debating or doubting your personal experience. However, I am very comfortable that I know way more than you do about how many dealers outsource this work because of my personal connections in this specific industry. If you can't live with that, we will just have to agree to disagree.

Again, let's not derail the thread any further.

No doubt there are a lot of hacks out there doing business as detailers in general, gotta get references. I'd go so far to say that if they advertise, I'd be skeptical.

Ive actually had many better experiences with my local dealers than I've had negative experiences...

Not that it is entirely related but I took my Mercedes to the dealer to get it detailed and they did a phenomenal job with my car. Perhaps I just got lucky that one time though.

It's not a black and white thing, just in general dealers aren't a good source of quality detailing. Some will be, but like I said unless you have knowledge that your particular dealer does a good job, I wouldn't.
