Default Road trip

Just curious on thoughts of driving your GS on road trips. ( 150-300 mile trips)
I always rent cars to do road trips because I don't want to rack up the miles and collect bugs and debris on my car. I am not leasing but although comfortable in my GS, I feel long road trips are abusive to my baby. What does everyone else think?

I bought my car to be driven. Nothing abusive about doing that.

I just got back from a 400 mile road trip in my GS. It was very enjoyable.

Ok, I'm moving towards doing a 400 mile trip but car wash will be first thing on mind on return. Also I'm worried about parking and car dings. After 3 years of ownership I only have 1 small ding. If I add one more on trip I will regret ever taking it. Nothing like parking in my own garage.

do you have PPF (clear bra) and/or some nano coating? both will help with rock chips and bugs, especially the washing part. but like JDR said.. i bought my car to drive it

If your GS has adaptive cruise control, Pre-Collision and LKA, it is made for long road trips. Else it would be a shame to let all those comfort convenience features go to waste. But of course make sure you get PPF on the front bumper at least to address those pesky bugs.

I always take a rental for long trips before recently buying the GX , I have a black GS and can see each and every new rock chip on it so for me no thanks I would drive something else on the long trips.

I usually rent for long trips too. I have a long commute to work everyday so I'm forced to rack up miles in my GS, but the comfort of it is what makes the commute more enjoyable. However, I do regret not getting clear bra when I first got the car; the front bumper has a lot of dings and chips from the daily debris and road dirt

I think it defeats the purpose of buying a luxury car just to rent some base model nissan or chevy for a long road trip where the luxury would be most useful. Just my .02 cents

Nice long road trips are the best for your car. short city drives puts a lot of wear and engine build-up.

But if I know I m going to drive 300+ miles, I sometimes rent a car if it's under $25 a day.

I bought mine with the intent of taking long, comfortable drives.

The best part of driving the GS is doing so on long road trips. That's why I got the luxury package. The 18-way adjustable seats really make a long trip enjoyable. But in Summer, I always carry a windshield cleaning tool with a bug sponge on it and clean the windshield, front of mirrors and front bumper & lights at my destination to get rid of all the bugs. And when arriving home, I thoroughly clean off all the bugs within a few hours of arriving home. And never, never drive it through a car wash. Wash it by hand yourself!

As joedaddy1 said, long road trips are important for the life of your car. Just driving it quickly around town will cause all kinds of problems in the long run. It's important to get the oil up to temperature and keep it there for a while in order to get rid of the water and fuel that builds up in it.

The more miles the better, fun to drive and the more miles brings me closer to getting a new GS. I do my best to keep my car in great shape but it is a car and serves the purpose of getting from point A to point B. I have 32K on a 2014 (bought 12/13). Just over 1K per month.
