Default Rear Bumper Cost

Long story short.....

A tire came of the rim of a semi-truck and ran into the back of my car. The truck drivers insurance company is going to cover the cost of repairing my car. Lexus said that it will be about $4800 to repair everything. This sounds extremely high to me.... Am I missing anything?

Oem bumper from the dealer is about 500$ add another 500$ for paint and installation. 4800$ is ridiculous unless we can't see something what the dealer saw. Btw what wheels are those haven't seen many with those.

That was my thought.... I even put everything around $2000 for sensors, wire harnesses, etc. But this seemed way over the top.

I bought my car used but i believe the rims are what the 2010 GS350's had.

Since Lexus dealer is fixing the car the trucks insurance is paying I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just talk to the service advisor and make sure it's done right and inspect the car for any other damage which you cannot see at the moment.

I had a similar thing with my front bumper. Total came out to be around $1500 including bumper, inner fender, small little odds and ends, paint, and labor from Newport Lexus. I agree with Dallasguy1, I can't imagine it to be more the $2000. But like he said, if the truck driver's insurance is paying, don't worry so much. But make sure they use an original NEW bumper. My insurance company tried to screw me by saying telling the dealership they could use a used one or aftermarket OEM bumper. Luckily, the people I was working with at the dealership were great and they made sure to use a new original bumper. If you have to, escalate it to the service department manager to make sure everything is done correctly. Good luck!

My right rear bumper had a crease from a bumper tap. I had it estimated and it came out to $1050 - new bumper, paint and bumper applique. Mounts and inner parts would be extra once they see what was needed when they removed the bumper. The only way I could see $4800 is if there are considerable damages to internal parts.

I disagree with the other posters. Independent of who is paying, I would push for the job done right (with OEM products) for a reasonable cost. Get more than one estimate. The truck companies insurance firm's adjuster will be the final say. So the repair shop may have put in a buffer for negotiation purposes.

Any neck or back pains? They probably added the doctor/hospital/pharmacy costs without you knowing.

Could be the cost for the exhaust outlet and exhaust bottom trim as well, looks as though it snapped off.

I got rear ended at a low speed last year, they replaced the bumper, the fascia between exhausts and one side of the exhaust trim. Overall including paint and labour it was about $1500 CAD from a reputable lexus dealer.

My wife's RX was rear ended with similar damage. Total cost was about $1900, which included a new bumper cover ($500ish), two parking sensors at $490 each, then paint and labor.

Paint and replacing the bumper cover only is anywhere between $1000-1500 on the GS.

Looking at the picture, I suspect that there is more damage behind the bumper cover... perhaps to the bumper reinforcement beam as well as the inner skin behind the cover. I see something on the passenger side tail light -- is that cracked at the bottom corner?

I would not laugh at $4,800. Body and paint work on a vehicle is very expensive. People don't understand why a scratch on a door cost $1000+ to fix. They commonly say, it's just a scratch. Well, to properly repair that scratch, one has to strip down the paint on the entire door panel, paint it, then coat it with clear. If it's a 3 stage paint which many of the Lexus colors are, then there's even more work. Don't forget sometimes they have to remove the inside door panels to remove the window and door trims and handles. Then, if the scratch is near the edge of a panel, it may require more paint to blend into an ajacent panel so the color variation wouldn't be perceptible to the naked eye. And there you have it. Why a little finger nail size scratch can cost over a thousand bucks to fix!
