Default Horse power war

I think next year GS will be outclassed (power wise) by all its competitors 540i, A6, E400, G80 3.3T, MKZ 3.0T (400 hp!!!!) and also by some of the lesser brands, like the Ford Fusion Sport with 325 hp and 380 lb-ft (!!!). It's going to be interesting how long Lexus will hang on the 3.5 NA.

And yes, there are GS drivers out there that care about other things as well, besides reliability. Shocker

Eh in 2019/2020 the GS may be remade into a biturbo v6 pushing out 400 hp :/ but all speculation until it happens.

Given that A6 3.0T is 340HP, E400 is 328HP, 535 is 300HP, I don't see the next gen GS will be anywhere near 400HP.

Give me another 20lbs/ft of torque and I'll be happy.

Well, it's a big pissing contest isn't it? If that's a big issue for you, drop the GS and go buy one of the other 500hp Alpha Male Dragsters. If being "outclassed" is too much for your ego to handle, jump off and run away from the Lexus.

Speaking for myself, like most of the other cerebral car reviewers have said, this sports sedan meets the daily driver requirements (hits the sweet spot) while keeping a smile on my face in the twisties. No, I'm not going to win a straight line drag race against the competition, I don't track my car, nor do I wear a helmet when I commute to work.

Drive what makes you happy. That's what's most important.

Cosign that...no way the 535i is only 300HP... I suspect the S4 is more than 333HP also but it could be all the torque...

That would definitely bump up insurance costs. I just need a nice sedan to driving daily.

I see you crying for HP, but Lexus has a big plan ahead with the current gen 4LS stretched from the usual 7 year to a 10 year model cycle, and it should be released some time next year as a 2018 5LS, thus spawning a whole new range of Lexus part aluminium chassis with small capacity turbo V8's and V6's; just got to be patient...

Dear Lexus,

Bring back the 3L inline six engine from 1IS, with a turbo/super charger with at least 350 lb-ft of tourque at low rpm.

I shall be ready with my checkbook.

Sincerely yours

A lot of people misunderstand what they feel, although you are on the right track. What you feel in a BMW is that with the turbos they are able to get peak torque around 1800 rpm. But look at the trap speed in the quarter mile. The 535 is no faster than the GS.

Audi is another story. I believe they are somewhat under rated. I've seen 106 mph trap speeds with the 333 hp A6. I have a A7 with that engine, and had a 310 version before it (2015). My new one does feel faster than 333 should.

The car I'd like to drive is the new Infinity Q50 S with 400 hp and is about $50,000 or so loaded.

Good point, I didn't think about the low RPM point when peak torque hits. That Q50 S is going to be awesome, I already see a lot of those around town.
