My LS had a power trunk and it was a great feature. Its the equivalent of a power lift gate on a SUV, incredibly convenient.

Not silly at all, very convenient and nice to have. I use it everytime.

Is it possible to use the parts form an LS trunk and use them on a GS?

You could buy the parts for the GS as MY14 and newer have the option for power trunk, but it is incredibly prohibitive cost wise.

Yeah thats the problem. Thats why I was wondering if they were compatible. Its very hard to find a junk GS with a automatic power trunk but all LS have that feature so thats why i was wondering.

Frankly I'm confused as to what the big deal about this feature is? My new F Sport has the power trunk and it is listed as a $400 option. Basically all it does is opens the trunk fully via a motor rather then just popping it. You can trigger it to open with the switch in the car, key fob, or at the trunk. But you can only close it via the motor with the switch in the truck lid. Really, how hard is it to push down a trunk lid by hand vs. pushing a motorized switch while standing at the trunk? Not $400 worth of convenience!.

Not silly at all. I like the feature. Nice pressing a button and moving on.

You've describe what the feature does very accurately. The difference is some people value it and others don't. To me, yes it is worth $400

Having not had it and now having it on the LS, I don't see the big deal. Yeah it's a nice feature, when buying an already $55k+ car sure I'll check the $400 option but I wouldn't go to any expense or trouble tearing my car apart aftermarket to try and add it.

Default Foolish feature

I would happily pay to remove this "feature," which offers no utility whatsoever but has caused the trunk to open all of its own when we were far away from the car.

Sounds like you accidentally pressed the button on the keyfob to me, because that's the only way it's opening.

That's supposed to be the case, but it happened while we were asleep and it happened several times when we were nowhere near the car--indeed, kilometres away. I suspect the sensor is just on the edge of spec but it's too intermittent to catch and nothing shows up as wrong on the internal computers, so the mechanics cannot fix it.

Odd... Try pressing the trunk "off" button in the glove box and see if it still activates on its own.
