It's kind of an issue in this market. We specifically state that our prices are the same cash or finance, we charge a $495 doc fee (standard in our market), tax and actual motor vehicle charges. We disclose this in every online ad, as I like to say I like surprises on my birthday...during Hanukkah...not when selling cars.
Another competitor or two of mine prices their cars "after $2,995 cash or trade down" in the fine print.
I don't believe in doing business this way but it works for them.

I saw the price is good with 2,995 down at a dealership in NYC , that's a crock of Brown stuff!!!! The doc fees here in Ohio are 125, so I assume every state has there own fees.. Let me know if you come across a decent 13 GSF with flaxen and 60k miles or so for around 27.. I'm in no rush.

Stay away
Wow really glad you stayed away from this car OP. I checked this car out at the Kendall dealer and have a story that goes along with it Not that it is in bad shape but the lady who traded it in really pulled a fast one on them.
Looks like you called the deal off anyway which is good.

Good thing he didn't buy that GS. I would like to say, Thank you, rld14, for candid and honest responses. WAY too many dealers are not like you. If you were closer to me I would be dealing exclusively with you!

Regarding the "doc fee," the DMV regulates this fee in New York State to be $75. If a dealer in New York State/NYC charges anything more than $75 for a "doc fee" or "documentation fee" on the transcript of the transaction, then you can mention this to them.
There is no such limitation on dealers in New Jersey. Every state has a different regulation as to the maximum a dealer can charge. Customers often pay it without even thinking twice.
However, this seems to be highly unregulated and dealers often charge more than the limit. Dealers very close to where I live were charging $1000 for this fee. I took my business elsewhere to dealers where the doc fee was $75. Bought my car from a dealership that charged me tax/title/registration and the standard $75 doc fee.
Here's a great resource: http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/wh...d-you-pay.html

CPO only
I just purchased a '13 GS350 Fsport with 18,000 miles, was owned by a 60 year old widow, for $36.2K. In my opinion considering how expensive the electronics are in this car I would only ever buy a CPO model, the Nav unit alone will set you back $10K if it fails. I got lucky, the MFG date was June of 2013, so my CPO coverage goes until June of 2019!! I will definitely buy more coverage as I get closer to that date. Love this car!!

OP, I recently did a stint of nationwide shopping for an F-Sports near the price floor. Nothings cheaper without a reason. But if you're confident and don't need the comfort of a dealer, you can shave a couple thousand. I got a 2013@55K miles for 27K. Accident free, 2nd Owner.
For these floor prices cars, please use NMVTIS. This is a new government mandated database of VINs sold at auction. and it can sometimes catch things that CarFax misses. It's 3 bucks per check and might keep you from buying a hidden salvage car.
For dealers, Tri-County Lexus had some great prices that turned out to be bait. "Off-lease Only" in Florida are all damage repairs. CarFax clean? Just wait.
F-Sports can be had under 30K, but the miles should be climbing as you near 25K. For reference I know of an accident-free second owner F-Sport for sale by a dealer in TX for 26.5K, but it's got 66K on the ODO. That's the current "still in powertrain warranty" floor if you ask me.

Also, since you did a nationwide search, did you buy one sight unseen?

I'm not a mechanic or dealer, so on the day of pickup, I had a local Lexus dealer do a 3rd party inspection. They confirmed the car was legit and pointed out some wear items I used in negotiations. The inspection gave me negotiating room and most of all.. PEACE OF MIND to close the deal. If not buying dealer, I HIGHLY recommend this.

I used CheckThatVIN.com. Yes, I was prepared to buy sight unseen, but in the end I got something within driving distance (400 miles), from eBay, here...

I found a car pretty close to me this past week ,but when I went to sign the paperwork there were some Bologna fees tacked on ,and I walked out of the deal.. I bought a 13 Sienna a couple months ago ,and it was painless, why can't you just pay the agreed upon amount , without the bullshi7 fees?
Happy Belated Pesach to you Bro!!!

As a point of reference, I got a one owner 2013 white on black f-sport awd for $27.5, with a $150 doc fee. 53,000 miles, all factory recommended maintenance done and documented at a Lexus dealership. Flawless (to me) condition.
Local trade in at a Mercedes dealership in the northwest. Couldn't be happier with the car.
