What? A bad engine? What's the story behind this?

I have no idea of the story behind it, got dirt cheap GS450H luxury package from auction with an engine 'coughing'. Appears 1st cylinder lost compression, exhaust valve issue. So, looking for repair manuals how to take head off and also how to properly put it back in with torque pressure & sequence for each bolt.

Pardon for my english, my third language...

Repair basically started already... I ran into the slight problem, can't remove 'front' valve cover, something is holding panel on the bottom by oil filter unit... Picture #3 (last one)

Any help will be very helpful and appreciated...

This sounds like an exciting project!

My suggestion would be to sign-up for a subscription on techinfo.toyota.com, and this will give you access to everything you need. It is fairly inexpensive (i.e., $15 for two days, $75 [I think] for a month, etc.) and it's all "official" directly from Toyota.

Good luck with the rebuild. Not that I am a gear-head, but I'd be interested in how this turns out for you. Nice to have the skills and the ***** to take on this type of project.

Thanks to caha14 for that website to the Toyota/Lexus/Scion info. Didn't know that existed. This may help me track down something I was looking for a few weeks ago

quick update... had to replace an engine, repairs were too expensive in parts. Right side headblock had crack & piston #1 including valves were damaged looks like engine was overheated at some point in the insurance repair shop while being without radiators before I got it from auction.

GS450H is up & running now... paint job completed, just need to put headlights, bumper etc all together

Salvage GS goes for too high in auction.
How much will this car cost you at the end after fixing it up?

Some of you were asking to see a final product, there she is.... I call her 'she' since it's my wife's car, my GS is him :-) It's been on the road since May but I kept forgetting to post updates. Made front conversion to Fsport since I had to buy front bumper & grille anyway.

Again.. I do love quick take off and all luxury features on GS450 that my Fsport missing but CVT is sux, can't handle it. Pardon, it's personal opinion...

Had to laugh about you referring to your car as a he and your wife's as a she. Its the exact opposite in my family lol.

Must've got a hell of a deal on that auction if you're willing to replace the $15k engine.

All in all, great job restoring the car
