Custom illuminated f sport sills.. All doors
So I bought these on eBay and hoped they fit.. Which I knew they probably didn't but hey for 50 bucks... I was going to make em fit.
Good starting point
These aren't going to fit
Current seller I got for 50$ is away till Feb 23rd but pic for reference
So I pulled my sill out and started trying to figure out how to piece these together. My first instinct was to cut a hole out of the current sill an just stick these in. Nothing works according to plan. First the lettering is a bit smaller (.5 inches roughly) and prying the aluminum from the plastic is the biggest problem because it is so easily deformed so at point I decide I would vinyl wrap gloss black. Since "Lexus" was to small and instead of going with the word again I was like I could put what ever I wanted in there with whatever color. I chose copper to match the interior and the soon to be here wheels...
Not to bad have to sharpen the edges a bit
Test fit looks good so far
Now the led is a bright *** LED attached to a 1/8 strip of plexiglass in case any of you want to start from scratch.. But the $50 was a good investment starting point for a priceless and unique mod.
I only did one first in case I f-Ed it up to badly. I had two friends helping me, one is good at vinyl wrapping and the other is the do it all guy. These are some test pics so far I don't have it wired up just connected to battery. But if you want a nice custom mod, it's a good starting point. If Lexus USA is paying attention I hope they just start making these for all 4 doors as standard.(I want a free stet because I said it out loud). It's all not difficult to change the LED to any custom color you want.
Not bad
Little further away
Close up
About 9 ft away still pretty bright

Feelin' the ingenuity and work you put in! Great, unique mod esp. with vinyl wrapping the sill...I'm sure everyone agrees and hopes that the sills illuminate for all doors at some point directly from the factory...
How do you plan on getting power to the sills? For the factory ones, I installed and tapped the footwell lights in the front.

I'm confused. You traded out the stainless steel sills for these plastic black ones?
Okay.
Okay.

No they are vinyl wrapped black, matching the interior, and illuminated. So I ended up cutting the stainless Steel, but the piece is so cheap and flimsy made that it distorts and scratches easily, this was first my attempt, so learned a lot. Well worth the sacrifice to have illuminated door sills that match the interior at all 4 doors. Not bad or a 50$ investment compared to $229 for two doors. If Lexus USA, would must adopt the idea of making this standard on every vehicle we wouldn't have this problem.

Staggered3: Just curious - How did your install go? What wire did you tap to get power to the rear sills? Any pics?

The hardest part of the install is getting the wrapped piece to fit back in the plastic molding, I cut a lot of plastic and used a bit more double sided tape( which is what is already holding the aluminum part of the sill to the plastic) I tapped into the foot well light that illuminates when the door is opened and it's a simple led power and ground so I just extended wire to the rear...and BAM! Lol I know if I could do this some of you guys with proper tools could probably do a better job. I used a flathead screwdriver, a mini saw, double sided tape, and some vinyl wrap.
