Default Opening up rear-view mirror

Is there a non-destructive way of opening up the read-view mirror? Of course I can pry off the two sides but I'm afraid the edges will chip and bend where I'll insert the prying tool. Anyone did this before? Thanks

I cannot answer your question. But, why do you want to open up the rear-view mirror?

I want to swap the super dim oem LED with an after-market.

Oh, okay! How will the aftermarket differ from the OEM?

It will be brighter - as much as I want it to be - and red / amber. Right now it might as well be missing, that's how dim it is.

Don't pry the two halves open! Lol
Tilt the mirror glass all the way to one corner and slowly pry the glass (with you fingers) off of the base it is attached to with clips. It takes some force to do. Once the glass mirror is removed, there should be six (?) screws. After removing the screws the mirror housing halved come apart and you can access the bulb.

This works for MY '13-'15 btw. I don't if Lexus decided to change it up on us for the '16.

Never expected that, greatly appreciate the advice.

So if I push in one corner, the glass will swivel and push out the opposite corner until I can grab it with my fingers and pull the glass out?

Using the driver mirror as reference, tilt the mirror using the controls all the way up and to the right so you can get your fingers under the bottom left of the mirror, then pry it off. Honestly, getting to those bulbs in the mirror isn't particularly difficult, but it was unnerving enough to where I only got around to getting one bulb changed.

Uhhh, I think this guy is wanting to change the rear view mirror light that's stuck to the windshield, not the left and right ones on the outside of the car.

Haha, I'm talking about the rear-view mirror not side-view. Good thing I thought of double checking

Hah, ignore all of that then. That's what I get for speed reading through the first post.

Saw this DIY awhile back on the nx forums. Looks very similar or exactly the same as the one used in the GS (except for 2016 and above models).

Thank you sir. It looks like it will nick and bend the edges unfortunately. I don't understand how they do it in a dealership without damaging the edges, maybe they have special tools or smth
