Hood 250
Bumper 300
Both Grills 300
Foglight with cover 200
Fender 200
Wheel and Tire 600
3 air bags from what I can see 4000
Radiator 300
Core Support 400
Headlight with ballast etc. 1200
Parking sensors 2 of them at least 350

Roughly total of 7k in just big parts that our eyes can see. Remember that this does not include labor, paint and other small electrical parts that will be replaced.
Additional parts...

Hood 600 (bought one myself from a dealer with shop discount)
Roof liner 1800
Airbag computer 300
Steering wheel column ~900 (when driver wheel airbag deploys it pushes the wheel back inside the dash and brakes some clips)

That estimate does indeed surprise me. If your friend has any say-so in the decision - most definitely go with having the car totaled.

I suspect some independent car dealer is going to buy this practically brand new car with damage to one front corner and three airbags deployed and repair it, and then sell it for a handsome profit even though it has a salvaged title.

For Comparison, my New car then 2006 LS 430 was hit by a Jeep Cherokee in 2007, Jeep was going 67mph in a school zone and Tboned me in the rear. No air bags were deployed.

Her insurance company adjuster came to the tow yard and said to me it was totalled. Wrote me a check for $54,000. I used that money and got me the same car but different color. I have no idea why they totalled it but as you can see damage is less than your GS. Your getting a new car for sure.

Most likely frame damage was the reason for them totaling it. Or it was too much a hassle/ expensive to have it repaired.

That is way more than $9k in damages. The insurance company will total that ish out. Three airbags deployed. My 03 IS300 was totalled out after passing $8k in damages two years ago from a kid who rear ended the car and I spun out and hit the guard rail. No air bags were deployed and the body damage was no where near how that car looks. I drove the car home after the accident. They totalled it and cut me a check.

State law and insurance measurements are different. We are talking insurance measurements here.

"or exceeds the car insurance company's measure to declare a total loss."

That is really what counts, the insurance company's threshold. The state has laws on the books "just in case".

If it was me, I'd say total it, and go sign another lease. I don't want a brand new wreck.

So, what was the insurance outcome on your friend's new GS that hit the deer?

Totaled? Not totaled? Adjuster's repair estimate?

Sorry for the late response guys. No updates yet. Been over three weeks and they are still in between whether or not they are totaling or trying to fix vehicle. According to the insurance adjuster they have to use all OEM parts or else it voids the Lexus warranty on the vehicle. When he gives me another update I will update you guys.

After 3 weeks with no decision from insurance, while driving a rental car, I would be pissed. What is taking them so long?

No doubt. 3 weeks and they could already have ordered all the parts and began putting it back together and probably almost ready for paint.

Good grief.

I'm curious, for those stating that the roof liner costs about $2000... What makes it so expensive? Never would have guessed that.
