Lots of great input given, especially from jtrue28 and pqn68.

I won't play the guessing game with the amount of damage, as I'm no expert there, but my main question as a hunter..

Did he at least get to keep the deer? Those might be the most expensive deer jerkies he's had

Damage is more than 9k for sure.
And I thought the rule of thumb was:
If air bags deploy, its more than likely totaled.
Between the air bags, damage to the inside from airbags, chemical residue/scent from the airbags and frame damage, the car is done.

Absolutely! Shout out to Jtrue 28 and pqn68 for your advice. I learned something new about the ACV/Adjusted value and your experiences with the gs after an accident surely helped.

The deer jerky comment, lol-hilarious! The owner of this car doesn't have club lexus so I have sent him the link to this page and he says in this case he can't eat what he killed!

All jokes aside, some bystanders took the deer as a parting gift.

Air bag deployment dose not necessarily mean the car will be totaled.
My friend rear ended a pick up truck. His X5 driver and front passenger air bags deployed.
Damage was over $25K (close to $30K IIRC). Insurance said NOT totaled.

there is $15K+ minimum in repair by experienced shop, only roof headliner cost $2K that being torn by deployed airbags + healight $2K and more more, also don't forget about labor $$$...

This car is totaled 99.9%... trust me, I deal with salvage yard cars

I agree, there's a good chance this thing is toast.

On a side note, shurik74, where's my credit for the quote in your signature?

Couldn't tell you whether it's totaled or not, but I would say that damage is way more than $9k.
I figured most of that damage could be buffed out...

If the repairs are around $15k on a $50k car, then the repair costs are only around 30% of the car's value. Most states require the repair costs to be 70%-75% before a car is considered totaled. In Texas the repair cost must be 100% of the vehicle's value.

In GA, if you get in an accident, the insurance company is legally obligated pay the car owner the depreciated value of the car. Most people do not know this because insurance companies do not advertise this and the owner is responsible for reach out to the insurance company for the paperwork.

If they end up fixing it, contact the insurance company and ask them to pay you the adjusted value. Take that check and trade in the car for a new one. I would take a 5k hit for another new car than to drive a wrecked new car. Is the warranty voided if the car is in an accident?

I would say its greater than 12k in damages only because the damages look almost the same as my car.
My brother just got a check, (several months later mind you) for the depreciated value on his GS after it had to be repaired when somebody turned in front of him. (the body shop he brought it to did everything OEM too btw)

I had a slight fender-bender with my 2008 Infiniti G35xS - extremely minor denting all along left side. In fact at night when it happened, you couldn't even see the damage. The cost? $7,500, including replacing one of the front headlights (which apparently were very expensive). Seeing the damage to your friend's car, I'd say $25,000 to $30,000 (but I'm no expert). I can't even imagine the under-hood repairs!

Fingers crossed for your friend ...

Man that sucks! Just out of curiousity how many miles were on the odo at the time of the wreck? I'm thinking it's just going to get repaired but who knows how this will play out. Will check in later for an update.
