Default plastic shelf blocks path to cabin air filter

How do I remove the plastic shelf that is blocking my path to access the cabin air filter? The left side is easily removed by pushing the shelf up but I cannot remove the right side of the shelf.

Pull the whole shelf to the left or pivot it out. there is a slot on the right wall that a tab built into the right side of the shelf slides into.

Be careful!!!! You can break stuff easily when replacing the cabin filter and it is a ~$2000 fix. There are horror stories on here. Make sure you read the manual and follow it to a T!

FYI the thing that you can break is the "servo" (I believe) that controls the flap that mixes the air, and the whole dashboard has to be disassembled to replace.

Not true. Follow your own advice: "Make sure you read the manual and follow it to a T!" You're referring to the recirculation button, but there's no mention of that anywhere in the GS350's manual, and I read the manual and swapped out the filter already.

To the OP: You'll have to be firm pulling that shelf as rijc99 said and as shown in the manual.

Thanks for the lecture on heeding my own advice, big guy. I will certainly be reading the manual when I replace the filter, I just haven't replaced it yet. I was just trying to help, and save OP from making an easy and costly mistake based on what I've read here on the forums. Apparently what I read was either misinformation or meant for a different model. I sincerely apologize. Hope you have a superb night.

To OP, good luck with the filter swap.

So I can just take out the old filter and put the new one in right? no need to push any button, wait for a while, do some acrobatic moves? My car won't explode if I did it wrong?

On my Camry all I have to do is match the arrows on the filter and put it back in and I'm good to go.

You're ok as long as you avoid this button.
