It's all tuning. It's why Toyota heavily encrypts their ECU, so nobody gets to peek under the curtain and figure out how to turn a slow model into a fast one (and therefore, a cheap car into an expensive car).
The RC F sport I drove this week was noticeably slower than my GS, at least, seat time told me that. Went and looked it up and sure enough, the RC 0-60 is higher than the GS350. Same engine, same layout, just detuned so it doesn't step on big brother's toes.

No one is able to decrypt the ECU yet right? Otherwise we would probably see a 500+ HP GS 350 by now.

Uh no actually.
There are videos of runway pulls on youtube showing a GS350 AWD spanking a 328i. The 528i would be even more embarrassed.
The BMW 2.0T engine has the benefit of low end torque off the line but high speed acceleration is a totally different matter.
A GS350 beats a 535i in the 1/4 mile. And those are instrumented MotorTrend and Automobile magazine tests.

The Bimmer will get a head start until the GS hits a higher RPM, then it goes bye bye.

Chip that little BMW 2.0 liter turbo and it really increases the hp and torque - then it's bye-bye GS. The stock boost pressure on the BMW 2.0 liter turbo is really low. It reminds me of how detuned the Supra twin turbo engine was...as well as the MR2 turbo.

Ah the Supra...

The RC & GS (and IS) engines are the same. The RC weighs more than the GS, hence why the acceleration times aren't as quick. The IS weighs less than both, making it's acceleration even quicker.
You can take your tinfoil hat off now.

How can the smaller RC weigh more than the goodies-loaded GS? It should even be lighter than the IS. I have a feeling the 2RC will lose some weight.

It blew my mind when the spec's came out. I read they heavily reinforced the chassis. It may have been designed as a convertible.

Its not uncommon for a coupe to be heavier than a sedan...

Lead Lap
Seems like the coupe doors have to be more reinforced since you don't have the B pillar to protect you in crashes.

Next time bring some facts. Here are some examples.
2015 Lexus RC 350: curb weight 3,748lbs. Engine: 306hp 3.5l 60 degree V6. 0-60, 5.8s
2015 Lexus IS 350 RWD: curb weight 3,593lbs. Engine: same as above. 0-60, 5.6s
2015 Lexus GS 350 RWD: curb weight 3,726lbs. Engine: same. 0-60, 5.5-5.6s
So obviously, the RC is doing something wrong here. It is literally 22lbs heavier with .2s slower 0-60. Is the aero worse? A little. But weight isn't a big deal, that's like a bag of dog food heavier than the GS.
These numbers came straight from Lexus' website, I didn't pull them out of thin air, MINUS the GS numbers which Lexus didn't bother to publish. Motortrend and other magazines have reported anywhere from 5.4 to 5.7 depending on conditions, so I threw in the median average.
BRB putting my tinfoil hat back on.

I made the same mistake when you guys discussed it and I looked up the specs, because I was mind boggled.

You also have to step back and look at what you're saying. Its .2 seconds slower 0-60. Do you have any idea how small a measure of time two tenths of a second is? Essentially they are the same speed.
