This is due to US laws.

Apparently mercedes drivers are smarter than lexus or the laws don't apply to non-US and other cars out there?

You can roll the windows up with the remote in an MB in the US (and probably other makers out there?).

Same reason Toyota doesn't think we're competent enough to handle a remote start system that doesn't stop the engine.

Our cars do have a jam protector on all windows and sunroof u know? So u won't get any of ur body parts chopped off by these things. It works like this on my old Camry.

This subject has been well-aired in another thread.

The GS has a dealer-set facility to close all windows and moonroof by keeping the remote lock button held. My dealer in the UK disables this on every GS and LS they sell.

The reason? All close and all open are under the same function and the remote has a long range. So someone parks at one of our British pubs for a beer, accidentally presses the remote and returns to their car to find the interior deep in water and their laptop gone.

The dealer says this has happened to their customers many times and that they will only restore the setting under extreme pressure.

You can only roll the windows up on a merc by line of sight. There are models that have a little IR receiver (black square) by the key hole on the drivers side door and if you point your fob at that spot and hold lock it will roll them up. It works by IR not RF, and models without the IR receiver on the door will not roll up. I believe you must point the key at the door using IR to roll them down as well.

On a Lexus you can roll them down if enabled without line of sight because the fobs are using RF to perform that control.

Wow. I've always wondered what that little square was for lol. I figured it had something to do with IR...
