Default Detail at dealership

Paint feeling a bit rough..Had it for about 8months and getting the first 5k service Tuesday at Lexus of Orlando. Service is free of course and mostly pointless but that damn caution light on dashboard is freaking me out so forced to take it in...they offered me a detail (wash, wax and clean engine compartment, vacuum) for 109+tax..anyone have any experiences(cost, quality of service, etc) with detailing your car at your local Lexus dealer?

U know "Detail" and "Dealer" don't go well together.

And that warning light can be reset in just under 30 sec.

It'll cost you at least $250 to fix what they do to it for that $109 "detail"

Theres a reason why most of the members here usually go into service with a huge paper taped to the steering wheel saying "DO NOT WASH"

I would steer clear of letting the dealer detail your car. Why don't you do it yourself?

That being said, before I bought my car it was detailed by lexus of tampa bay, they actually did a decent job on it. But that was the exception not the rule.

Paint feeling rough, just get a set of clay bar kit and do it urself, it doesn't take that long.

I've gotten the presidential detail done at Lexus of Orlando after getting the brake pedal recall done and they did a decent job.. I don't know if it was worth the price because my car was already in mint condition but it didn't hurt

+1 ....any type of "car wash" at a dealership is usually a bad idea...

I went to pick up the GF at the Hyundai dealership and she requested the car wash after service.

I cringed when I saw the car after.

As many have said steer clear of details done by your dealership. In regards to resetting you maintenance light that is a very easy thing to do. First I think you put the trip od to A then turn car off then while holding trip a turn car to on position (not start) and keep holding tell it cycles through.

I actually bought my car at Lexus of Orlando and do all my services there. I had my car fully detailed by them. Wax and all. It came out VERY VERY good. I was actually surprised since I usually avoid Dealer washes. I highly reccomend them!

Buy yourself a nanoskin auto scrub (instead of claybar) , clay lube and a good hand wax and do it yourself. That way you can maintain it and not have to take it to the stealershipship continuously.

Dealership wash = spray on de-ionized water, wipe off. De-ionized water does not leave hard water marks that's why they don't use soap. Most dealerships will crop dust the cars with that stuff, parked on the lot and let them air dry. They probably don't vacuum and don't wipe down anything else either.

A $120 detail to them is a typical wash everywhere else (wax is sprayed and washed off, like at most automatic car washes), no hand waxing or claying.

It's a "sucker's deal".
