While I agree the GS F will more accurately compete (and surpass) the 550 and S6s of the world in both performance and pricing, Lexus is clearly stating this as an AMG/M5 competitor.
The press release has a quote with something similar to "the GS F comes in weighing almost 300 lbs less than key competitors in its class." Those key competitors being in the 550+ hp class.
You can see how this can be confusing to the consumer when Lexus says its an M5 competitor, but prices and specs it at the 550i level, but performance wise it'll edge the 550i.
To me, doesn't matter. If it's a good car and you like, you buy it. Simple.

I always had toyota product but after selling my GS for M5 I never even looked back and now understand the whole M thing... There is no comparison, but i am patiently waiting to test drive the GS-F as I waited for one for so many years, which is why I ended up in a manual 6 spd M5.
I wish the GS came with at least 500HP especially since the older E60 M5 had 500+ but lets not forget that the car is 4000 pounds which is still 200 pounds heavier than my M5 after installing coilers, brakes, exhaust etc it dropped that 200 pounds, and Im sure with intake, headers etc we can read 520 fly wheel HP?

im humored by all,of the "failed" post saying that 465 hp is not enough. You guys do know you are on a forum for a car that only has 306 hp now, don't you?
I've said it before, wait until pricing is announced. It will be much cheaper than the 550+HP cars y'all think it is supposed to compete against. It will be priced like a 440 hp BMW 550 or 450 hp Audi S6. I'll bet on it.

Regardless, the price and marketplace will determine who the competition is.

You post has the 300lbs less in quotations, but the 550+ hp is not in quotations. Did they say 550 hp or are you saying that? I'd like to see the exact quote that says they consider the M5 a competitor.

As far as pricing, I can attest that the so-called competitors easily top 100K when new. I have been looking at used 2014 RS7's and some new/used S7's. They are both high on my list, but I do not know if i can justify the price difference (I do not yet make it rain). I can spend big in 5-7 years when I turn 40. A used 2014 M6 GC can be had for a killer deal also. Let's hope the reported 200 GS-F's that will make their way to the U.S. does not give Lexus the idea that they can MSRP this thing near 85K. In that case, 2016 S7???
Sadly, we will have to wait 6 months or more to have many of our (my) questions answered.

I agree, the word "fail" has been drastically overused regarding the GS-F. How many calling it a fail have actually driven a car with those numbers? I have not yet, plus I do not believe it to be a failure at all (perhaps because the current 4GS is my first Lexus). The irony is thick like fog. There have been many members that have offered constructive criticism, disappointment, confusion, etc. I have been plotting my next ride, and the GS-F has made the list based on prospective bang for buck, familiarity, amongst other things.

Has anyone driven the GS F yet ? why so much hate ?
If anyone has driven on a track or has actually raced in their lifetime (not BS street racing) you would know that horsepower is not all that important. For all we know 465 hp is the exact amount needed to go around the track without any over / under steer or body roll. There has to be a balance. Maybe the GS F will beat the AMG's and the M series around a track, who knows. Let the car at least come out and be tested and driven.
And whoever says 465 hp is not enough, obviously never drove outside of surface streets flooring it at a red light or something. My challenger has 470 hp and it is perfect. If anyone is in the Los Angeles area, i know of a track in Santa Clarita Valley, i would bet money i can take my Challenger around the track faster then someone with up to a 520 hp car. And im not just saying it, Im willing to make a video for the forum to prove my point. Horsepower is not everything. Its about the perfect recipe.
By the way if you have a Porsche or a Nissan GTR, i will not race you, those are the exemptions.

I too wonder if that came from the media (which is why I said reported) as opposed to Lexus. 1600, as rominl mentioned, would seem more likely, but again we will just wait and see.
And with 200 potentially charming GS Fs pegged for sale in the U.S., the long-rumored hot GS will further cultivate F's core brand value of accessible performance. A common thread emerged while questioning the chief.

1600 World Wide a year , but I bet as many as half of that or more could make it to the U.S., as it is their largest market, especially for a V8 sedan like this ......
