Question for Breaking in Period
Hey everybody! I recently pulled the trigger on a 2015 Lexus GS350 Atomic Silver (she's a beauty!) and I have a question with regards to the breaking in period. The salesman advised me not to drive at excessive speeds and not brake abruptly as stated int he manual, but I was wondering how far along did you guys actually start flooring the car and putting it in full throttle? I'm at 700 miles currently, and I'm scared to get the RPM past 3,500 or putting it in sport mode.
On the contrary, one of my friends said that cars develop their driving sense within the first 3,000 miles so that's when you actually need to drive like you normally do (whether you're an aggressive drive or slow driver). What do you guys think?

if i recall the recommended break in was around 833 miles or something (converted from km) ill have to dig it up again to make sure.

●For the first 621 miles (1000 km):
• Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
• Avoid sudden acceleration.
• Do not drive continuously in low gears.
• Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.

uh oh... apparently I have been babying the Lexus and actually kept the car in relatively low gears for the first 600 miles... I really hope the breaking in period like all you guys say is untrue!

I drive mine normally, varying speed, briefly punching to redline once in a while. No hard braking though as I've always found it important to break in the brake pads properly.
Oh and I own mine out right so I wouldn't take any chances on damaging it!

Your going the old school route Which isn't going to hurt it. You'll just have to retrain your ECU once your breakin period is finished

if it's going to break, it will. doesn't matter if it's 5 or 5000 miles on the part.

A lot this
The best kind of driving for break-in is probably a variation. You shouldn't flog it the whole time, but you shouldn't be afraid to have fun with it now and again in addition to regular daily driving. Being too easy on it or always driving at a constant speed is said to be no good because the piston rings sometimes don't expand properly without variation in rpm during break-in (this includes high rpm, which is why some folks say drive it like you stole it).
