Default just bought 2013 FSp GS, have some ?s re: screen, wheels

Hi gentlemen, my name is Samantha, I just bought a 2013 F Sport AWD with 13000 miles.
I think i got ripped off a little on price, but I liked it. Traded my BMW. I think they pressured me, but i like the car. I just went in to look, but it was fun walking out with a nice car.

A few questions:
the screen is distracting, so I want it to be off mostly. Is there a quick way to just keep it off? I can go to the display menu and then turn off, but that is a lot. I am trying to use the idrive, but it seems to take my eyes off the road, so i need some help. Is there a voice command?

Is there a quick way to change radio stations?

The wheels are 19 inch, and the ride seems harsh. If I go down to 17s or 18s, is that ok? I am worried with potholes, etc that I will be replacing the oem wheels all the time. Are the 19s too low profile? Are they staggered or what, and can someone tell me about the wheels? Will they be olin winter? I don't know, they suggested to buy 17s for year round, but then why have 19s?

I purchased yesterday, but I miss my BMW a little, and the screen thing is just irritating. What screen do you normally keep it on? How do i get real time traffic on the screen to judge my commute??

I m a little frustrated. I like the color I have -white and the ventilated seats are nice. I thought the trunk could open on its own with power, and close, but it doesn't. I also can't really tell if the car is a gs or ls or is, but I'm new to lexus so it is hard.

Thanks so much. If i go to the dealer for these questions, who do i speak to? the salesman just seemed busy after i agreed on price, and didn't really want to talk. Is there someone at the dealer who can help me get up to speed?

Do i need to do something for it to understand my voice command? when i push the voice command, i want it to just do what i ask, but all sorts of things happen and it asks for other voice prompts. I don't know how to really make it understand me. I don't say "like" and things like that, which is what they suggested

How do i know when it needs maintenance? they asked me to prepay it, and so it would be like BMW. I didn't really understand that, but they also offer upholstery protection. Is there a way to do a clear film on it?
Thanks you gentlemen,
Samantha

Wow, I think you bought the wrong car. Should have gotten a Camry or something, haha.

Curious why you went with the FSport? The base GS has smaller wheels to begin with but I don't think the 19s do as bad against potholes as you seem to think.

I believe the only way to turn off the monitor is the way you're doing it.

Everyone else is upset about no power trunk option too

Maintenance is kept in the cars display through the options menu. Shows how long you have left for things.

Voice commands: if you download the Lexus enforum app that syncs with your car... You will see tutorial videos on a lot of stuff. Voice commands being one of them

The screen defaults to the nav window.

Once you set your station presets there are station and volume change buttons on the left of your steering wheel

Congrats! on the purchase. Wheels will have to stay at 19" due to the big brakes up from. Anything smaller will not fit. Screen off can only be down as you mention and will stay off until you push radio, media etc. Almost everything can be done with voice command, you just have to learn the language...

maintenance is every 5,000 miles. take a look at your service manual, that will give you a better idea of what need to be done and when. your owners manual can clear up any confusion you have as far as turning off the screen.
since you have the fsport brakes and therefore cannot go smaller than 19s, your only option would be to replace your tires with all season with a slightly higher sidewall profile. that should help smooth out some of the bump harshness.

Which tires are you rolling on? That could be the reason for the harsh ride. Can not down size wheels and tires on the car you bought... Congratz is in order because you bought a great car. Why is the screen distracting? If you're looking forward and driving, how can you see it. I don't notice the screen at all unless I look directly at it. Well maybe because of the fact that you were driving a BMW and the layout is somewhat different... You'll get used to it.

For some reason this sounds like a fake post to me, or this person was just forced into the car and is trying to justify their purchase :/ Plus your interaction does not sound like service you would receive from a Lexus dealership, did you go to a third party dealer?

One of the best things about this forum is that it is self moderating. I agree, this thread does not pass the sniff test.

Poor thing! Being boss around to buy a car at a price you did not like was not a good thing. Was this a Lexus dealership? When I bought my car they had a tech specialist sit down and literally explain all features of the car. My dealership waited hand and foot and made sure I was happy with my purchase two months later into my ownership. If you press the Menu button on you remote touch controller you will go into a screen destinations, apps, setup etc... There should be a display button on the screen on the upper right corner. Inside that display button you could turn the nav and side screen completly off. The screen will still light up when you have new nav turn directions or blutooth phone calls. But when the call is over the screen will default back to off. congrats on the car.

Ok, so I figured out the thing with the idrive - it moves and it stutters sometimes, but i think that is normal.
I wasnt aware i couldnt go lower than 19 inches. I have gotten snow tires at tirerack before and it says i could go 18 or 17 - is that wrong? Is my best option in winter to get all seasons? I am a little confused on what to do in winter.

The dealer is a lexus/bmw/mercedes dealer, they tried to put me in an RX, but forget that, i dont drive SUVs. I usually get BMW, but i liked the lexus since it is more luxurious. The f sport they said was top of the line, and it was a 2013, so it was marked down like 8000 dollars. I bet i could have gotten it for lower, but i was alone and had no one there.

I dont still get how to control by voice. They said "everything" can be controlled via voice. I have tried so many commands like 'pop trunk", "turn ac off", "play radio", and other basic things, and havent gotten anything except prompts for telephone? Is it possible it is trying to understand japanese, or is there a US setting? My BMW had a setting for different languages i think, i dont know.

Is there a list of voice commands that i can use to work with the car?

I love the solid feel and the look is nice, and the only other thing i want to do is upgrade a few things. The floor mats are rubber? What gives with that. Dont most luxury cars use carpet mats? I didnt really get that either.

I love the speed and the dealer was nice, everyone smiled a lot. The sale guy took me to the back to work with a financialperson, they were a little mean, and threw a bunch of papers in front of me, but wouldnt give me time to read them. That happens at the BMW dealer also, buti guess they have a lot going on.

I really like the leather, it is so much nicer than BMW, and the heated steerign wheel is so cool.

How do i get real time traffic? And do i just order 19 inch wheels with all season tires from the dealer, or tire rack, or do i go to goodyear? Is the dealer the safest?

I just dont know where to begin with these things.

but the car is sooo awesome, and it I totally like it so much. It was a real deal i think, and they said that it is pretty much loaded in the F sport version, and i love that little controller to switch it to eco and sport mode, it changes colors on the dash! My friends were blown away. it is so advanced. I just need to learn the idrive and buttons.

Thanks you guys. I get a little nervous sometimes and talk alot, but the answers that you provide can really help out. I called the dealer and they said that i could come in sometme on a slow day and they could help, but they couldnt schedule for me, so i thought i could try here. The car is so "choice" as ferris would say in that old movie! Samantha

i read some of the other posts, and i wanted to express my appreciation for those that responded with helpful information. I not a "car girl or guy", but I can appreciate nice cars. Maybe this forum is full of more experts, and I am truly sorry if my questions are too basic. I dont have the help I used to have, some of these dealers are sort of intimidating to us, my sales guy kept talking about "low end tork" - and I didnt really grasp that,l but I totally love the car. Sometimes the sales people get irritated by women.

I did do my research on my phone and saw that the lexus won in a comparison test against other models, so i went with lexus. I was really only there to look at colors, but it was fun to walk out with a car. I just am a little overwhelmed by the car and it makes me a little nervous, and I dont drive as well when I am nervous.

Hi Samantha,

I am also a new GS 350 F-Sport owner and I've found this forum to be very helpful. I haven't posted much, but just using the search function has been a huge resource for me... Plus there are TONS of great photos of other people's cars that will make you want to spend a lot more money on your car. LOL

As it pertains to the voice commands, I came across the website below in some of my online searches. It helped me, so I hope it gets you started on the right track, as well.

Cheers,

You must have the all-weather rubber floor mats. Mine came with the carpet ones but I replaced them with the rubber ones, they're easier to clean.

And the voice command doesn't control everything, this isn't Siri. Well even Siri can't pop a trunk. lol

But you can say: I'm TOO HOT/COLD and it'll raise or lower the A/C temp. a few degrees.

Just play with the car some more, it takes a while to get used to everything and that's the fun part!

She said she got an AWD... arent the front brakes different than the RWD? Maybe with the AWD she can go 17 or 18? No?

Yes, i purchased the AWD version.
If anyone knows about the wheel issue, let me know
On tirerack, it implies that i could get 17s for the snowier months

Thanks for the voice commands, that is so nice of you.

I am still trying to figure out how real time traffic can be put on the map?
