I found a wheel / tire combo for sale from a 2006 LS430 - 245-45-18 with about 10k on them. Plus they would be good winter wheels with appropriate tires I am thinking...

Would you do that or go the Michelin route?
Go Michelins primacy MXM4 94V 245/40r19 for your fsport and you will see a HUGE improvment in ride comfort and noise.
I love how these tires feel and ive done 20k miles on them and used up only 30 percent of the tread.

Please stay with me...
245? Is not the size 235? What affect does going wider have?
What about going for a thicker side wall? 45 vs 40?

I have less than 700 miles so far and going to the dealer tomorrow for them to "check the tire pressure". Do you think they would let me "trade up" to Michelins? It's a 20k lease - I doubt I will wear out the Michelins for the return

What about steering feel? How does it get affected based on the tire size?

Michelins....no doubt. I have change the feel/ride on many other cars, from Corvetts to SC430's....and always ditched the run-flats and what ever other brand tires. With a small spare in the trunk I have no idea why Lexus installs run-flats, because they make the car ride like a buckboard. I did insist on swapping out the Bridgestones for Dunlops.....could be just the lesser of two evils, but they are acceptable until I can replace them, probable with Pilot Sports and definitely non run-flats.
In the mean time I'm running with around 32psi all around to help the ride.

Be sure to check the "age" of your new tires since they have a limited shelf life and tend to degrade over time.

+1 on the Michelins, I'd give Falkens a long look if you're on a budget.

Interesting forum discussion on getting "wider" tires:

For driving back east (some bad weather) , a good performance all-weather tire to consider would be the Continental DWS...check out Tire rack's survey/test. Plus, they are a quiet, comfortable, very affordable, and wear evenly, and good tread life. I have 20K on mine and still have 6/32" tread.

I am with you. the 235/40R19 is an odd-ball tire size and very limited tire choice. Going to 245/40R19 is completely compatible with this car and does not cause any adverse handling as its only few percent wider. The car drives and tracks straight and the handling is excellent without steering issues because its only 10 mm diff and tolerable. I am very knowledgeable in tires and wheels from past experience and my Lexus dealer and independent mechanics have no issues with these tires in size 245/40R19. The ride is definitely softer and smoother by huge amount and I would replace them again when worn out. I have not had anyone agree to replace my tire free of charge so its unlikely the dealer will do it. The car is smoother then the premium GS on bridgestones and dun lops with some sportiness in the handling and ride which is a perfect balance.

Thanks, Rexus 300 - also for replying to my other post.

I called my local tire place to see how much these are. Interesting that on Tirerack the 94V version is $100 less per tire than the XL.

The dealer's service guy said that's the way it is supposed to be...

Avoid XL as they are too firm and unnecessary for the car. I had 98W one time in the MXM4 and they were firm so I went with the 94V and been satisfied.

Ditto. I also changed the runflats on my '06 SC430 to Michelin Pilot Sports. Made a huge difference. I'm going in Monday to have the Dunlops with 16k miles on my GS F Sport switched to Michelin Super Sports. I know there will be a huge improvement, especially in road noise.

Michelin PIlot Sport 4S are hands down the best tire for someone who doesn’t have to deal with 4 seasons. They last a long time and they are very sticky, but good in the rainy season.

Summer performance tires become rock hard like a hockey puck below 40 degrees and dangerous due to loss of traction as the rubber properties change from a pliable elastic to inflexible plastic. Also, summer performance tires will crack when driven in cold temperatures.

I agree 100% with your post, your preaching to the choir regarding what tires do in extemely cold temps I live near Lake Erie where the temps get to 15- below zero 3-4 months out of the year.

I run summer tires exclusively on 3 of my 4 vehicles. I saw the OP lived in the southeast United States so that’s the only reason I recommend the PS4S which is what I would run year round on my 4GS if I didnt see 4 seasons. If he’s looking for 4 season tires I can kindly recommend the Conti DWS-06 which is 100% blizzard approved all season that grips well during the summer months and comes in a plethora of sizes.

With all this tire talk, its got me wondering about the life span of the original Bridgestone Potenzas that came with my F Sport. I think it’s the RE050? Never had a staggered setup before but I know I need to expect the rears to have only a fraction of the life of the front tires. My driving style is 75% grandpa, 25% spirited, how many miles do you think I should expect from these? Especially in hot, humid, “melt your tires” South Florida?

I would expect no more than 20,000 especially from the rear tires.
