it's an option. You can get the Lexus remote start (RES) and have them install it at delivery which will give you the ability to start the car with the fob. It'll run you about the same as it cost me to get remote start via cell phone plus GPS tracking, etc. that's the reason I went with Viper.

Welcome to the family btw!

My car should arrive today at the dealer, then they will be installing a regular remote starter, are you saying I can switch now to the RES instead?

The regular remote start is the RES system, which you'll be getting today. RES+ is the system that you gain functionality through your phone, but is unavailable still.

I wonder if you can covert installed RES to RES +. Software is free app on Iphone. Maybe a receiving module plugged into OBD port?

Unfortunately not based on other models. I remember reading it costing roughly $1100 to install RES+ and it was a completely different module. It also involves attaching a not so pretty looking antenna to the passenger side of the windshield by the sun visor.

Thanks was just curious. Really do not need all those other features. Dealer installed an Audiovox Pro 9056 remote start on my car. Works great right from the FOB.

Sewell responded to my inquiry as to whether or not a RES could be easily upgraded to RES +. No dice. Almost have to start from scratch with new parts and obviously the installation procedure.

RES+ is more then "plug and play" like a regular RES....

it has alot more wiring and placement of flat antenna on the windshield

This has to be a joke. How can a 55k - 60K luxury sport sedan not come from the factory with remote start standard?

I bought a Saturn SUV in 2007 equipped with power rear hatch/trunk, heated seats and power folding side mirrors. It came with remote start and everything else right from the factory. A Saturn. I traded it in for a GMC in 2012. It came with power rear hatch/trunk, power folding side mirrors, heated and air conditioned leather seats, Heads Up Display, DVD entertainment system, and remote start. A GMC.

This is my first time around with Lexus. I beginning to wonder what's up. GM seems more like a luxury brand than Lexus, if you go by standard equipment.

Have you gone down a list of standard equipment from any German luxury car makers recently? At least we get HIDs and keyless entry standard. I agree with you though, it is frustrating that some of the features the GS lack can be found on a sub-$20k Hyundai but it comes down to a balance between cost, reliability, and performance. You can buy a sub luxury sedan that has as many features (and more) as the GS and sacrifice some quality or you can buy a MB or BMW that has more features and pay significantly more for it. Lexus likes to play the middle ground while still providing killer reliability.

Interesting to note that I opened my hood yesterday and tried remote start and car started! Seems to me that this is a serious safety issue. Not even a safety warning sticker under the hood. This is a "Lexus RS" system installed by dealer.

I wonder how much it would cost. Knowing Lexus, we all might as well opt for aftermarket.
