Just bought a 2015 GS350 with 58K miles
Hello,
First post here. I've been driving BMWs for the past 12 years and decided to make the switch after seeing how reliable my wife's 2013 GS350 is. Her car is a CPO F-Sport AWD with 20,000 miles and I just got a Crafted Line F-Sport AWD with 58,000 miles (no CPO). I know the miles are high but after reading up on these cars for the past few months, I felt confident in making the jump.
I went to Lexus drivers and saw that he prior owner was a lease who put close to 23,200 miles a year on this car.
1/16/15 - 18 miles - pre delivery inspection
4/25/15 - 6026 miles - 5000 mile light service
6/23/16 - 11704 miles - 10000 mile full service
8/26/15 - 16930 miles - engine oil and filter change
11/12/15 - 22813 miles - engine oil and filter change
2/11/16 - 29935 miles - engine oil and filter change
7/8/16 - 41975 miles - engine oil and filter change, air filter change
I just had the 60K miles service done and the most notable work done was, PCV replaced, engine oil and filter change, brake fluid flush, air and cabin filters replaced, spark plugs replaced, tire rotation, wiper blades replaced and various other checks. I bought new rear tires and had to get new front brakes and rotors. The Lexus dealer didn't want to do a tranny, diff and coolant flush so I went to the Toyota dealership and they did the tranny flush, both differentials and a coolant flush. The car got a clean bill of health from both dealerships.
My question is, did I forget anything? I've been reading around and don't see anything about fuel filters and power steering fluid. It looks like electric steering doesn't have a fluid change and the fuel filter is just a sock on the fuel pump.

What was the reason Lexus did not want to change the differential fluid but Toyota was willing to do so?
I agree with doing a full service based on the fact that the car was driven quite a bit in a 2-3year time frame. The only thing I would say is to have the battery tested (if it wasn't already) and ensure you don't have any issues with the wheels being out of round at all. They wouldn't touch it before that and actually warned me against doing it. I found some outside mechanics that would do it but, thankfully, I found Toyota and they had no problem doing it. Toyota said they could do all the maintenance and services on both Lexus' and it's only a mile away from my house. I'm gonna go to them for services. They said they can do everything except for major repairs or diagnostics. For those, I have to go to Lexus.

Damn....that rattle is on my wife's 2013. We paid $500 to get it repaired and it's still there. I can't find the TSB (link doesn't work) but we'll have to go back.
Hopefully I can find the TSB, or I'll just print out the whole thread and bring it to the dealer.

The 60K service was done at Lexus for 999.99. The coolant was 249, the tranny was 349 and the diffs were 249 each and that was done at Toyota. From what I've read here, the prices are lower elsewhere. I'm in Brooklyn, NY and the prices seem higher here.

Lexus of Brooklyn (Formerly Bay Ridge Lexus), Lexus of Queens and Lexus of Manhattan are under a single ownership umbrella. I think the only way you would've been able to save money at a Lexus dealership for the 60K service would have been to go to either a Jersey dealership or a little north of the city (e.g. Ray Catena of White Plains, Lexus of Mt. Kisco) OR have the 60K done at the Toyota Dealership.
I personally would have gone a more local route with a mom/pop mechanic with my own parts but as long as you're satisfied with the level of service that's what is most important.

Spark Plugs(rated for around 100k)
Tranny Flush(unnecessary, full flush is not good for a transmission, at least on my 450h it's sealed and not ever supposed to touch it, there is no dipstick to add tranny fluid)
Replaced PCV? That's not even in the service schedule, again unnecessary
There is a reason they warned you not to touch some of these things, might do more harm than good.

As per manual for GS350:
"Initial [coolant] replacement is at 120 months/100,000 miles. Replace every 60 months/ 50,000 miles thereafter."
"The transmission/transfer case and transmission fluid are a completely sealed unit. Therefore, periodic checks and replacement of the transmission fluid are not required, and there is no dipstick on the transmission. Any repairs that require adding or replacing fluid should be performed by a qualified technician following procedures in Lexus service and repair publications." There is no mention of what interval to have transmission fluids changed.
For RWD F-sport, rear differential fluid is recommended to be replaced every 72 months/60,000 miles.
Spark plugs are recommended to be replaced every 72 months/60,000 miles.
Brake fluid is recommended to be replaced every 36 months/30,000 miles.
Engine Air Filter is recommended to be replaced every 36 months/30,000 miles.
Cabin Air Filter is recommended to be replaced every 12 months/10,000 miles.
Engine Oil and Filter is recommended to be replaced every 12 months/10,000 miles.

You could easily save some money by replacing the engine and cabin air filters on your own. Should take less than 15 mins. Dealer would charge a lot to do those simple replacements. You'll end up paying a lot more if you tell the dealer to perform XX,000 mile service. They will do the checks/inspections anyways because they want to find things to repair. Also, you could order the F-sport Engine Air Filter, which is reusable, and clean it at 30K miles.
