I'm actually getting my windows tinted in a month and the Lexus dealership said they send all their cars over to this place for their tints. I asked if this is something they know about because I definitely want to avoid this if I can.

It could possibly be the seal to block out the wind noise causing the friction and scratching the paint. The felt type of material that is used around the edge of glass seems to attract dirt, I wouldn't be surprised if yours has trapped sand. Luckily for me I have maybe rolled down my tinted windows a total of 10 times in my month and a half of ownership - first time was for a speeding ticket!

Sniiper, I see you have window visor? Is it installed in the channel or exterior of the door? If in channel possible pressure against glass to window run seal? Plus dirt and sand. I have dual pane and few scratches, but not that bad.

Visors are installed on the outside of the door. I was actually hoping that installing visors would somehow solve the problem, but they made no difference. I've had this problem before the visors were installed.. My passenger side is looking a lot better, but that is because I don't open it too often.

Plus you live near a sandy beach , which doesn't help! Looking at the window seal on mine, it has some dust and some debris on it. Seems the dirt/debris sticks to the seal? I gotta clean the seal more often to avoid more scratches.

It's definitely the seal...which really doesn't have anything to do with the thickness of the glass. For the seal to work properly, the window has to rest on it, regardless of how thick the window is.
