I received a post card notification from Lexus that the 2012 map update is available now.

I suspect that if our Nav units can handle 3D, it will be done via a mapping software update as part of the annual map updates, probably not before next year.

Pioneer did something similar with their nav units last year or the year before when they changed mapping software vendors.

Outrage

I just want the bird's eye view. The 3D building modeling only works if you're in a major city which makes it worthless to me.

What version was the post card making you aware of? On the Lexus nav site it shows v12.1 as the most current, PT219-HDD07-00.

I ask because I'm planning to purchase this week and I want to have the latest included.

edit: The dealer says the 2013 version is in the vehicle. Does that make sense?

Unfortunately, the postcard did not give a version number - Just that the 2012 map update is available (keeping in mind that Lexus usually releases the yearly update toward the end of one year/beginning of the next).

There is a TSB with the dealer instructions for doing the map upgrade (I don't have the link)...depending on when your car was built, it might have the current map version on it. I bought mine March 9, it was built in November/December, and I am not sure I have the latest map. However, I probably am not going to do the update this time. Next year, if it includes an update to 3D, I will do it.
