Thanks everyone, we are going to feature my trip on the homepage so I'm in the process of a detailed write-up and I ordered pics from killboy to post with it. They have uploaded them to view but have watermarks (unless you purchase)

Pole Position
Blue, car looks great!
I did The Dragon last year on my way back from St. Louis, first time....kind of on a whim. I have a friend in Tennessee who lives an hour away. We went to The Dragon together, me in my 2001 modded 2GS (260,000 miles and I'm still driving it all over the country - gotta love Lexus!)....and he has a new 550i. And he invited his buddy in his BMW Club who has an 2011 M3 who met us there.
We spent the afternoon doing multiple runs back and forth, switching cars. Of course, the M3 felt the best.....feeling very light on its feet and real easy to toss around with confidence. I fell in love with the M3 during The Dragon. So easy to drive fast, quickly, with confidence. And that engine sounds glorious when spinning in its upper registers.
Ironically, we all concurred that my ol' GS felt better on all those crazy turns than that noticeably heavier 550i (even in Sport suspension setting). Yes, my suspension is heavily modded with sways, Tein, EDFC, spacers and sport control arms. My buddy's 550i is just stock on 19s.
But my GS was just far more tossable than that 550i. The hood is so big and the driving position is not built for that kind of driving. It's a great engine, but my suspension felt better....and we all agreed. My GS would stay planted and when it did slide a bit, it was controllable and easy to modulate. That 550i was a little scary on those tight turns, and you always felt like you were one bad steering correction away from disaster.
So, for me, it's coming down to the new 2013 IS350 Sport (can't wait to test drive it!), and a 2012 M3. Decisions, decisions...
