I am with you on that last paragraph. I love how my GS F-sport hugs the road very tightly and weaves between lanes and curves that is unmatched by my previous 2011 BMW 5 series. The BMW felt porky and sluggish through the turns and the turbo lag was annoying. The GS shifts very smoothly and instantly. I do wish we could have 1-2 more gears but overall I am not going to complain, its the best Lexus sedan ever!

PS: I never knew GS is for Grand Touring Sedan!

First, don't patronize me. This is a discussion forum. I'm discussing things. I'm providing hard numbers and you're throwing up red herrings. I'm not saying the 8-speed sucks (it is quite good in fact). Just that it has no appreciable advantage over the 6-speed.
Also, your opinion is suspect. None of your facts are valid. The 8-speed in the IS is not the same transmission as used in the RX. At all.

the whole reason why industry moved to 7,8 gears tranny was to allow closer ratio in the lower gears for faster acceleration whilst allowing better fuel economy on the upper gears...
now to your point.. the MPG gain is VERY slight... around 5% at best... the problem with 8, is once you are cruising in 8th @ 65mph, and need power to pass a car.. your car will have to down shift 5 gears to get in 3rd to give you the oomph you are looking for... this seems silly to anyone including people who have ISFs... it makes a lot more sense on cars with much more toque where their throttle band is much wider... on a GS? i'd agree it doesn't add up... if they supercharge it or place a turbo... absolutely...
