Smile Aftermarket wheels and TPS warning symbol question???

Hey all:

I recently put on aftermarket rims on my GS with TPS. The thing is they are not programmed and now the light is on. Now is there any way to get this thing programmed without going to lexus cause these guys wanna charge like an hour tech service to do it. And on principle I dont wanna go that route... I told them if they wanna rob me to at least put a mask on and use a gun so the role playing can be more fun.....Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Mike

Unfortunately I don't think so, unless you can find a shop with Techstream software. This is based on the little I've researched into this, so others may know more.

No other way to do it unfortunately. You have to get it programmed at the dealer since they have the techstream software and machine that will recognize the TPMS address without removing the tire and getting the codes from each one individually. Just pay once and you are done. I rather get it done properly since if I was to pay a lot of money for new rims and TPMS I would know about this beforehand.

If use the factory tpms on new wheels, there is no need to reprogram correct?

incorrect. you still need to register each tpms.

and if i am correct, you need to write down a number from each of the tpms so you can enter it during programming? if so, i hope you wrote them down before mounting the tires

Correct. That's what I'll probably do since I shouldn't need to swap wheels for the winter, although having an extra set ready to go is nice too.

I'm going with the F Sport wheels, and the dealer will just move the sensors from the factory wheels to the F Sports.

True, If your factory sensors are in the new wheels your light should not be on. Except if one or more tires is low.

I switched my factory TPMS onto my cv3's and no problems at all. No need to reprogram

You may want to take a look at this,

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/clu...s-at-home.html

I'm about to pick one up myself for my summer set.

This made me sad.

if you are putting the original tpms from your factory wheels to the new aftermarket wheels, then no you don't need any reprogramming.

but the way i read your first post it seems like you have new different tpms. if so, you need to program them again.

otherwise, it doesn't make sense the light is on (unless low pressure)

Lexus dealer will charge an arm and a leg to program the new sensors. What I did is, I went to Toyota dealer and got it done for half the price. I did not have the sensors installed at the time though..

My message was poorly worded. I'm usually good about making sense, but I clearly did not proof read that message.

Not only did I leave a word out, I also should have gone with the word "oem" in place of "factory".

Sorry for the confusion.

Thank you!

Are the sensors on the GS location specific? I'm assuming that they ARE since the car can display all 4 tire pressures. My last car was NOT location specific so the sensors on that car can be mixed up when moved from corner to corner (as when getting new wheels).

If they are location specific on the GS ... be sure to re-install them at the same corner of the car they were removed from.
