Default GS450h / GS350 reverse ligths

I noticed there is a difference in rear light setup on the GS. There seem to be versions that have two reverse lights. Where here in Europe all seem to have a single reverse on the right and a fog light on the location where you'd expect the second reverse light.

So if this is a difference with the US model and the EU, where are the rear fog lights located in the US model? The reflectors in the rear bumper?

Here is a pic of the one reverse and fog light setup modeL (look specifically at the left units)

And here the dual reverse light version:

Obviously I am asking this for potential future modding of the single reverse light version.

Thanks all.

Apparently, in places like Japan, the Americas (from North, Central and South) as well as Australia + New Zealand, you get both reverse lights for the 4GS.

However, for other countries/territories like Europe and parts of Asia, we're pretty much screwed on this.

I call this kind of setup as the "ASYMMETRIC BUTT"

Sadly, there some cars out there that sadly follow this setup:

*NOTE: In Europe, Honda Accord only has one reverse light + rear fog lamp. In Japan, Australia, New Zealand and the Americas (as the TSX), the vehicle has two reverse lamps*

Now, in the case of Lexus, this may just be speculation but I'm guessing this was brought about by cost-cutting (perhaps due to the unfavorable Japanese yen exchange rate).

Anyways, if I were to get a GS here (our 4th gen GS units here also have this ASYMMETRIC setup), I would buy a left hand side reverse lamp module, swap the rear fog lamp and assembly out................then sell the rear fog lamp module for probably 5 bucks on Ebay

Problem solved (for me)

HID reverse lights are definitely bright, but having them on too long may create a lot of heat that the housing cant' take. Plus, you have to wait about 3-5 seconds in reverse until the lights fully warm up before you can fully use it.

I recommend LED bulbs instead:

This is weird. A car if this caliber should have 2 reverse lights in all markets, and European models should have fog lights too.

One thing I learned that was interesting when I bought my BMW is that even the US spec cars have rear fogs. They just don't have a fog switch on the instrument cluster. However I ordered the switch from Europe, swapped it with the US spec switch, and hey presto my rear fogs could be turned on. It makes a ton of sense to have just one global part.

The 3GS in some markets had different tails too, like my HK/AU spec 450h.

Different to the 4GS obviously, as the rear fogs didn't replace the reverse lights, just the inner LED running strips.

I am sure the aftermarket will come up with something. But symmetry is something I find quite important on cars. Not having rear fog lights is not an option since the rear fog light(s) are mandatory here.

Thanks for all your answers.

If you need to buy a 4GS that badly, you could probably replace the LED fog light strip with a reverse lamp module.

Then just install aftermarket rear fog lamps somewhere else. (just hope that this won't void warranty).

Either that, or check if the Lexus LS (for Europe) will have two reverse lights and two rear fog lights.

Otherwise, if all else fails, then I guess you'd have to stick with your 2IS a little longer (or if you really need a new car that badly, then I'm afraid that you would have to look outside of Lexus for that).
