Sorry for answering your question with a question but what, specifically, are you looking to improve or change? Bass response, imaging, sound pressure level, equalization or other problems with frequency response?

If you have the money, get a new amplifier and speakers.
If you're on a tight budget, get new speakers on the four doors only; leave the subwoofer alone.
The new ML seems to have plenty of power, such that it doesn't have to work hard, thereby distort.
However, the OEM speakers are not the best for clarity and cleanliness....

On the new GS, don't know if anyone has dealt with this yet.

Yes, it may cost a bit, but get a new amp and speakers too; plus a new sub as well.
Most head units put out a very clean signal.
