Default 2014 gs????

New GS is getting great reviews almost ready to pull the trigger. The concern is that the most apparent shortcoming is the carryover engine and 6 speed. I wonder if there might not be a 2014 upgrade to a 3.7 or something with the Lexus 8 speed. The GS will be the only new car with a six speed in the Lexus lineup. RX, IS and LS all have the 8 speed. Didn't Lexus carryover the 3.0 when they came out with the 3rd gen GS, and then upgrade to the GS 350 the next year after the introduction? Wouldn't want to have buyers remorse and not have the new new GS especially if it has a performance boost to put it on par with the A6.

The car is pretty slick as is - I had the same concerns as you but am quite happy with my car. Waiting a year is a long time, and keep in mind that the 2014 probably won't be out until FALL 2013 - so a good 16-18 months away.

If you want to wait, do so. Regardless of whether they make the mistake of alienating their customers again with a single model year upgrade or not - I think you'll get well worth the value in enjoyment in the 12+ months it takes for the 2014 to come out.

While I am hoping to keep my 4GS for 7+ years, I still viewed the purchase the same way I view technology purchases - don't have buyers remorse if something better comes out in a year, and month, or a day.

DITTO!!!!!!! what he said. i don't think i'll be keeping mine for 7 years. i am an upgrader sometimes, and with certain things that's one of my bad habits.

If you're gonna wait, might as well wait for the GSF...

Live in Cleveland, spoiled by the RL-AWD, so GSF is not an option

If you spend your life waiting on the next great thing, you'll never enjoy anything. Good luck with your decision.

Unless you feel there is something especially wrong with the current engine, don't wait. Mine runs great and I have no regrets.

That said, I test drove the 03 Cadillac CTS when it first came out and hated the carryover 3.2 engine from the Catera. I waited until the new 3.6 engine was introduced in 04 to buy my CTS. GM didn't bother mentioning that the 3.6 engine would consume oil like a 2-cycle and break timing chains.

Agreed. Get whatever you can afford at the moment you want it. I highly doubt there will be any noticeable change on the 2014. Maybe a 2016 that we will be a mid cycle change with powertrain boost and minor facelift.

+1. My thoughts are that if they upgrade the powertrain, it will be to add a couple of cogs in the transmission to make it slightly more fuel efficient. I wouldn't expect significant performance improvements (0-60 times) for the next powertrain as the car is already near the top in the class. There's only so much power you can get out of a car without hurting fuel efficiency, and without tossing in a turbo. I find it highly unlikely that Lexus will be putting a turbo in any of their cars any time soon.

And while I like better fuel efficiency, I didn't spend $70K (includes taxes, and in CD$) on a car to worry about 2-3 mpg differences in fuel efficiency.
