Fact of the matter is most buyers of these cars are older and more conservative in their tastes.
e60 took a HUGE risk in almost every direction. granted it probably didn't work too well, it was a lot of risks taken. w212 actually has a lot of hard lines and bold design in the car design, a lot more than what they did on the w211. that's also risks.

to me lexus took more risks with the 4gs (over 3gs) than they did with the 3gs (over 2gs). they took HUGE risks with 2gs and it worked for them completely. for the 4gs, seems like they took risks in the front and forgot about the rear

I guess that just leaves the 5er but all these cars look good in their own way. One thing though is interesting. This is what a base A6 looks like:

It doesn't have the fancy lighting etc... that we see in the press photos. Even the interior is a bit lower rent than the high end ones in press reviews and Audi press photos (i.e. they use plastic instead of leather for the material below the center console on lower trim models):

Though that interior is from a $61k car.

The GS being shown off by Lexus on the other hand is the base model, the one without the fancy full LEDs and the like. Not sure why Lexus has opted to display the GS in that trim unlike the Europeans who always show off the highest trim cars. However the interior still retains the details the Europeans overlook on their lower trim cars. The center console area for example is still stitched leather on the GS.

anyone know the dimensions of the 4gs ?

it just might canibalize it's upper end LS market, people might just go for the GS and forget the LS.

The interior looks like a really nice SUV or truck interior

It's really growing on me... I am even forgiving them for basically slapping a Sonata rear end on this car.

The GS is the same size pretty much as the current model, which means the LS is at least 6 inches longer in SWB form and 12" longer in LWB form.

You might want to actually read the press release before posting.

I think I'm sold on the front now. I really like the aggressive textures on the hood of the car.

The headlights could have been more aggressive, though.

I certainly like the 4GS design over the A6. Overall, I think the BMW 5 still looks the best in this segment, but the 4GS design keeps growing on me day after day.

Exterior of that A6 is painstakingly bland. Wow.

the europeans usually keep their interior's with the same theme through out their entire line up. BMW hasn't changed much in many many years.

Are you sure? That looks like an A4 to me, wait..scratch that, I'm sure that's an A5 errrrr, that's the new A7 right?? Could be a SWB A8 but its dimensions are a bit too small...

whenever i need a loaner from lexus, i ask for the RX b/c of how convenient the controller is. it reduces te smudging on the screen and is surprisingly easy to use. i did hate it at first, but it really is much better imo

I was talking about the exterior, but none the less, the interior of the 5 Series is leaps and bounds above the E60...a pretty huge upgrade.
