Default New tires for 2006 GS430 -- Michelin, Conti or Pirelli

I need to buy new tires. My Pilot Sport A/S Plus are down to 3/32nds. I'm deciding between the following three -- Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+, Continental DWS06, or Pirelli P Zero A/S Plus.

Any thoughts? Size 245/40/18.

What is the car mainly used for? Any snow at all? All 3 of those tires are designed with snow in mind or developed for some snow.

Good questions. I live just outside of Chicago. Most of my miles are highway miles with some suburban miles. I want quiet and relatively comfortable but not mushy. My current Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires have lasted 50k miles and I'd like my next set to do about the same.

I've got the pilot sports A/S 3s and they Definately handle extremely well as far as cornering goes. Pretty quiet and comfortable for such a low profile tire. Although they are spendy.

Between those 3, I'd go for the Michelin's. Not a lot of people know this but Michelin offers a road side assistance program for most of their tires for 3 years. All this at no cost just for buying Michelin.

The continentals are the softest of the 3, so it's a little mushy; the Pirelli is the hardest of the 3 so rides a little harsher. The Michelin is somewhat best of both worlds. I would assume your highway and suburban miles involve snow at times also since you live in Illinois so honestly the Michelin would be a good option. I believe it's actually the one that replaced the AS you had previous (which was an excellent tire).

my next set will be AS3+'s. I have the Conti's now and they are great but the Michelin is the better performing (even better looking imo), longer wearing tire.

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys. Prior to purchasing my current set of pilot sport a/s plus tires, I had a set of a/s plus. When it came time to replacing them about 3 years ago, I went with pilot sport a/s 3 (not the a/s 3 plus). I absolutely hated them. While the handling was outstanding, I found them to be very harsh, loud on the highway, and generally uncomfortable. I felt that I had ruined the ride of my car. Within about a week, I returned them for another set of a/s plus tires and immediately had the comfortable ride back that I was accustomed to. My concern with the a/s 3+, is that they will be very similar to the a/s 3 that I had for a short time. Has anyone compared the old a/s 3 to the new a/s 3+?

I was in the same situation couple of months back on my GS 350 awd. Wanted to replace the Oem Dunlop Run Flats. Went to Discount tire and got the Continental Conti Pro. Smooth and quiet, yes, but hated them as felt they were too mushy. Went to Discount Tire to talk to them and they said they will replace it once and so was kinda under pressure to find something. After watching a lot of reviews on Tire Rack decided to go with the Pirelli P Zero a/s. Not bad, much better than the Conti's, still fairly quiet and smooth. Ok on snow (I am in IL too). But maybe it's just me but I miss the Dunlops. I mean I know they were loud and kinda harsh but the car was fun to drive. And I thought they were great in snow. Now most of the time I drive like a normal person but some days I feel like really pushing the car and I just don't feel safe doing that with these tires. Feels like I am in my ES vs a GS. But that is just my 2 cents.

Default Way underrated tire BF Goodrich G Force Comp

I had been running Continental DWS and felt they were a good compromise between the Dunlop Run Flats and a "Lexus" ride. As you mentioned the Discount tire version of the DSW is actually a step down and is only available through them. Found that out on another car when the salesperson told me they were better than the DSW at a lower price - wrong. Anyway I read good things about the Goodrich G Force Comp 2 and decided to take the plunge- the price was right. They are owned by MIchelin. I used to think of them as tires for trucks and 1990 Camaros.

I am so happy with these tires. The handling on the GS is so much better than the Conti Dws and I have given up only a slight amount of comfort. Very little sidewall roll, and to my ear they are quite on this car.

I will say however that they are good in snow but my impression on ice is that they slide more than the DSW. I am in Tennessee so that is not a big issue and have only had them in icy conditions a couple of times. Costco can order them, as well as discount tire. TIre Rack has them in stock.

I like the Conti's - great ride - they just get loud after 25K miles......and louder.
